Start by removing the two screws on the back and remove the back cover. You will then be able to see the batteries. They are soldered to the back side of the circuit board. For easier replacement, it is sometimes suggested that you use a modified installation technique. This is to break the tabs off of the old batteries rather than unsoldering them from the circuit board. This allows the old batteries to be removed but leaves the tabs attached to the circuit board. You can then solder the tabs from the new batteries to the old existing tabs

Hello,

Most Norelco shaver models require soldering the battery pack in place. Keep this in mind before attempting to replace the battery. If you do not have experience disassembling electronics, you might take it to a professional for assistance.

Thing you will need to perform this task would be; a mall soldering pencil (3/2" 700 or 800 degree tip), screwdriver and electronic side cutters.
Carefully follow the steps below;

Purchase the replacement shaver battery pack that will accommodate the 5801 XL model. A number of models use the same battery pack and would follow the same instructions. The Norelco 5801 XL requires a 1.2V 600mAH battery pack with soldering tips. This battery pack has several applications besides the Norelco Shaver, allowing it to be found easily in your local electronics store or online.

Detach the back plate off the Norelco razor by using the screwdriver and removing the two screws that hold it together. This will expose the battery pack.
Locate the two spring clips that hold the battery pack in place. Push inward and then up to unlatch spring clips
Clip the old soldering tabs with electric side cutters to remove the old battery pack from the shaver. Do not attempt to salvage the old soldering tabs. Resoldering the old metal tabs might damage the PC board.
Bend the new battery pack leads into a "V" shape so they match up against the old leads of the PC board. Once aligned, push down on the battery to snap it into place.
Solder new leads to old leads with the soldering pencil.
Snap the two spring clips back into place and reattach the back panel.
Charge the new battery pack. Once completely charged, turn on the Norelco 5801 XL to test.
