Beater bar gets stuck so the belt will no longer turn it because of the friction. Bar has been cleaned thoroughly, so problem is in the drive motor which is only accessible by taking it apart. When you get to the motor, the drive spindle is completely wrapped in hairs, and obviously the source of the friction. Cutting the hairs off the motor shaft with an xacto knife eventually clears the condition. After that you must reassemble the robot. In under a month, the same condition reappears. How can this be avoided?
Are you cleaning the beater bar (including removal and cleaning of the bearings at both sides of the brush) after every run? It's important that you try to minimize the hair that is getting into the drive shaft due to lack of maintenance.
This is a known issue with the XV series. It was improved with Botvac series, and improved even more with Botvac D-Series. The new Connected models hardly get any complaints of this nature, as the design has improved even more.

If the beater bar on your Vax Air Reach vacuum cleaner won't spin, despite the fact that the green light is on, there may be a few possible causes:
Belt is worn or broken: If the beater bar belt is worn or broken, it will not spin. Check the belt to see if it is intact and not stretched or frayed. If it is, you may need to replace the belt.
Beater bar is clogged: If the beater bar is clogged with hair, debris, or other objects, it may not be able to spin. Remove the beater bar and clean it thoroughly, removing any blockages or tangles.
Motor is faulty: If the motor that powers the beater bar is faulty, it may not be able to turn the bar. If the above steps do not resolve the issue, the motor may need to be repaired or replaced.
Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
Turn off the vacuum and unplug it from the power source.
Remove the beater bar by releasing the clips or screws that hold it in place.
Check the beater bar for blockages, and clean it thoroughly.
Check the beater bar belt for wear or damage, and replace it if necessary.
Reinstall the beater bar and secure it in place.
Plug in the vacuum and turn it on to see if the beater bar is now spinning.
If the above steps do not work, it may be necessary to contact Vax customer support or a professional repair technician for further assistance.
It's good that you have cleaned the beater bar and the end of it, as this is often the cause of the problem when the beater bar stops spinning.
If cleaning the beater bar and end of it did not resolve the issue, there are a few other things you can try:
Check the belt: The belt connects the motor to the beater bar and if it is damaged or stretched, it can cause the beater bar to stop spinning. To check the belt, turn the vacuum over and locate the belt. If it is damaged or stretched, you will need to replace it.
Check for debris in the brush roll housing: Debris can sometimes get stuck in the brush roll housing and cause the beater bar to stop spinning. To check for debris, remove the brush roll and look for any foreign objects that may be stuck in there.
Check for a clog in the hose or the suction path: A clog in the hose or suction path can also cause the beater bar to stop spinning. To check for a clog, remove the hose and use a flashlight to look for any blockages. If you find a clog, use a broom handle or similar object to carefully remove it.
If these troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, it is possible that there is a problem with the motor or another internal component of the vacuum. In this case, it may be necessary to have a professional repair it.
Is the beater bar actually turning when the power is turned on? Sometimes the belt is fine, but something is jammed and keeping the beater bar from turning. What about the section behind the beater bar, but before the hose upright. I've found large pieces of paper jammed in here and then hair gets caught, ultimately blocking the whole system. Usually you have to turn it over, remove some screws and disconnect the belt and beater bar to get underneath. Just reassemble it in the reverse order to how you took it apart. Double check the hoses and run a "unwound" metal coat hanger through to unclog anything. Does the vacuum " suck" with the hose or tube up to it disconnected? If not you may have a motor that somehow got junk pulled into it. You can open this up as well and clean this out. Of course unplug it all before doing anything.
This message generally means that the beater/brush bar is not turning. Try rotating the beater/brush bar manually to see if it can turn freely. If not, you will need to remove the beater/brush bar and ensure that it is clean; that the orange end caps on the brush are free of hair and dirt, and that the bar housing area is free of obstructions.
Note, when I said "beater/brush", it could be either/or, depending on whether you're using the "standard" beater bar, or the upgraded pet brush.
It is not the motor, You have to remove the top cover. To clean it out if the belt is going to slow Some thing is jam in there. There are screws that are probaby on the bottom or top of the unit to hold it together that have to be removed to get it apart.
If you have made sure all of the sensors are clear, and the moving parts (wheels, beater brush, etc) are free, then it could be a software issue. You can update your on-board Neato software here:http://neatoroboticsupdates.com/
if the belt is begining to smell it is friction from themotor trying to drive the roller Sounds like the rooler is getting caught up or jamming this can be taken out and cleaned
When you turn the roller, you should feel some resistance from the belt. Remove the base blate that surrounds the beater bar. Check the belt. Take care in removing the beater bar, so you can get it back in the same way it comes out. Clean the beater bar while you have the bottom open. If you remove the beater bar to replace the belt, take the time to inspect the cavity behind the beater bar where the vacuum picks up. That is where vacuums usually stop up. Reassemble the vacuum. If necessary, slip the belt over the motor shaft and then slide the roller undre the belt. Install the beater bar back in the sockets and replace the base plate.
