I don't think the new Conv. board is faulty, also voltages to board had been tested and they are fine. Also Stk ICs read fine.

Clearly it is not a pwer board problem, or you get no power condition or PWB diag on hitachi.

If you have wrong colors check also that the CRts are all working, you will need to test the CRTs AC boards.

Ensure that there is no short to the chassis, that all the screws are in place.

Start testing the small AC power boards that power up the CRT

Test also the following parts:
Flyback transformer: BW02891
Signal power board JT23031
Focus pack AZ00161
Horizontal Linearity BZ04611

Hello Eddie,

This may seems really basic but it has happened to me after a few frustrating hours of tweaking with no result.

Are the pins in the connectors for the CRT clean? If they are dirty or corroded it could cause poor picture quality.

If this set has digital convergence and I am sure it does and you attempted to straighten out this converegence before replacing the parts and you saved your changes then you have written bad data into the digital convergence module. Even though you may not have seen the lines physically move when you were trying to correct the converegence, the data still changes. This could be the reason you are still having an issue after replacing the defective parts. Otherwise, there should have only been minor adjustments that needed to be done after making the repairs.

Sir.

tnx for using fixya

resolder the terminals... they should fit well and good solder...
if it does not fix the problem.. remove all the upgrade components then return the original one... if it works well, then the replacement or upgrade components has trouble...check thier values and operating condition using a tester....
tnx...

  • Rodolfo Atun Feb 04, 2009

    if the resistors are not shorted or open, then it is the the stk that malfunction... the best way to solve the problem is by purchasing another one... i will not recommend any version of stk, it depends on you sir. but please check the compatibility of the add on sir, it is very important specially in upgrading...

    tnx

  • Rodolfo Atun Feb 05, 2009

    i suggest that you look for burned, crack or blotted components on the board... youre right, there must be something that went wrong... the best thing to do is to check the components if ever doubtful signs appear on the board and its components.... pls do test thier condition... test capacitors, resistors, diodes, fuses and more....

        RK42 = 3.3 ohms 1w

        RK46 = 1.8 ohms 1w

        RK50 = 2.7 ohms 1w

        RK54 = 1.8 ohms 1w

        RK58 = 4.7 ohms 1w

        RK62 = 2.2 ohms 1w
    Just download service manual and have all parts details.
    Good luck.

  • Anonymous Feb 03, 2009

    I'm sure you are missing +28 and -28 volts supply on STKs. Please confirm above said volts coming from power supply. Service manual will help you to track down it.

  • Anonymous Feb 04, 2009

    Please confirm SW+7V at IK01 pin-1 and output +5V at pin3
    and SW-7V at QK01 emitter and output -5V at collector.

    If above said voltage are OK then Digital Convergence Board is defective and requires replacement.

  • Anonymous Feb 05, 2009

    " i get SW-7V at QK01 emitter and output -7V at collector not 5v "

    Output should be -5 Volt at collector of QK01 as per service manual.
    Please check biasing resistors and also QK01 as it can be leaky or damaged.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

If you got the STKs and the resistors as a package/kit, then they should serve the purpose. Additionally, you may want to check the pico fuses. A pico fuse would look like the image below (sometimes black in color).
Color convergence on Hitachi Projector TV 51uwx20b - f51df2b.jpg
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

    If the fuses checks good, the STKs & the low ohmage resistors checks good or new and known to be good, then alternate possibility is low or no supply voltages. Have you checked the voltages using a DVM/VOM?

  • Anonymous Feb 04, 2009

    Verify that PIN:
    8 is GND
    11, 14, 15 & 18 are +Vcc
    12, 13, 16 & 17 are -Vcc

    Cheers.

  • Anonymous Feb 04, 2009

    Have you done an alignment after replacing the STKs? The Service Manual as provided by welcomejee would have details on how to align.

My TV is the Hitachi model 51UWX20B and tried using magic focus to line up red color. Picture looks like 3D with red off center. When using magic focus it gets to the red phase and it shows the number 5...

You need to replace the STK ICs which are Convergence ICs STK392-110 use 120s or 150s
also check the small ohm resistors around ICs . They are Big Black ICs and will have part number on them ,should be located on the Right hand side of Chassis .

Hitiachi Convergence Circuit Resistor Values

This site has been very helpful in diagnosing and repairing my Hitachi 57XWX20B. I recently changed the IC's and a resistor to fixe a convergence problem and had to use the small button on the convergence circuit to get set to return from static mode and enter dynamic mode. I searched everywhere trying to locate the correct resistor values and noticed many other's needing the same information. Here are the results of my research. I obtained some from manuals and others from comparison of the different models. My main focus was finding the values for the 57XWX20B. The resistor values are given in ohms at 1 watt. This means RK42 is a 3.3 OHM 1 watt resistor. RK58 was the problem in my set. It was giving a value of 2.3 and needed to be 4.7. I first replaced the IC's and thought the resistors were all good, but I later noticed my convergence was off. I could manually align it but the magic focus initiation would not save. It gave an overflow error. I bought the sanyo brand of IC's, not the cheap inports and found that if you use a desoldering wick then the repair is easy. The new IC's restored the beautiful color the set had when new. Now it is brilliant as well as converged. My repair cost was:
STK-110 13.00 Bought from local electronic supplier
STK-150 15.00
RK58 3.00 Bought from a local TV repair shop

The elecronic supply store gave me 6 inches of desouldering wick
Total cost: 31.00 Dollars

Color will not match up

if your talking about the sets convergence does not line up and it looks like a 3-D picture than The best advice I can tell you at this point is to go to tvrepairkits.com and order the complete convergence kit for your model of TV set, no need to search and order multiple parts from different sources and pay multiple shipping fees! Go to http://www.tvrepairkits.com/xcart/home.php?partner=larry
The kit comes with original Sanyo STK IC'S , not those cheap aftermarket or china made IC'S full pictorial directions, the thermal paste, resistors, the correct Pico fuses, AND free live on-Line tech assistance in case you run into a problem with the repair. They ship out 2 to 3 day Priority mail, the next day in most cases GOOD LUCK!!!

Have an Hitachi 51UWX20B that has the 3D thing going on, when I adjust it manually, and exit, the TV wont let me save, cancel, reset, or go back! Have to turn TV off to get out of that screen. Any advice...

Do not adjust any knobs as instucted in the previous thread if you TV have a convergence problem. Doing so will only make things worse. The blog does however show you how to fix other common problems with these sets.

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
701cb04.jpg
77ea520.jpg
f0900cb.jpg
Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

2c07611.pngSolution #1

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.
