Platter changes directions or stops

The platter on one of my turntables changes direction or stops when the pitch control is not set to zero. This seems to be an intermitent problem. Some times it will correct itself and I can move the pitch control. I have had the pitch controls replaced in the past but I am still having this problem on one of my decks. Please advise.

Seems to me that an ic gets to hot and comes in the thermal out zone, or too many dust at the potentiometre, often a lack of cleaning etc , which technics owners are well known for... you have one ic or unit which or can't stand the heat or gets different data.....
First take a look by yourself. It ain't rocket science

More than likely either an issue with an IC (integrated circuit) on the main PCBoard such as IC301 (Pitch Control IC) or one of the Regulators like Q2 and Q3. While your at it, you might want to check IC201 (Turntable Control IC), and IC101 (Turntable Drive). Doesn't sound like anything is busted just yet, if it comes and goes. This means something is about to fail, and your just seeing the failure in action.

Good luck.

My stanton t50 turntable plays too fast even when the pitch fader is at the slowest speed

You need to calibrate your pitch control. This requires a small precision screwdriver (similar to something you would repair eye glasses with). If you look under the turntable where the pitch control is you will find 2 small holes, 1 marked 33 and 1 marked 45. Turn the turntable on and set the pitch control lever to zero pitch. While the turntable is spinning insert the screw driver into the pitch calibration hole under the turntable and twist the potentiometer back and forth until the turntable pitch is zero (I believe clockwise is faster, counterclockwise is slower as you look up from the bottom of the turntable). This is a fine tune adjustment and will not require much turning to adjust the speed (1 or 2 mm's) either way should start to bring you into zero pitch. The platter speed can be verified by the little dots on the rim of the platter. They should appear stationary in strobe light on the power switch when you are at zero pitch. When you are adjusting the speed you will observe the dots on the platter rim spinning clockwise and then counterclockwise as you adjust the fine tuning. Fine tune the speed until the dots appear stationary and you will be back to zero pitch. You have to adjust the turntable at both speeds 33 and 45 using the correct fine tuning hole under the turntable. My personal experience is it is easiest to do this with 2 people. 1 person to hold the turntable level and running, while the other adjusts the fine tuning. Hope this helps.

Hello, my pitch control on the turntable doesnt hold its pitch anymore, how would i go about by fixing this please? :)

You will need to check your belt tension for wear.Lift felt on platter and and lift the platter section off the unit by putting your thumb and forefinger through the two large holes and pull upwards. There should not be any special routing for the belt and should go directly onto the spindle motor to your platter. Place the belt around the inside rim of the platter while it is still off the unit. Now replace the platter and move the platter around until you see the spindle motor through one of the holes. Use some tweezers to manouvre the belt onto the spindle motor. On some units you will have to lay the belt out inside the unit, replace the platter and manouvre the belt onto the platter. Hope this helps

Platter quit spinning

Sounds like the motor drive controller might be malfunctioning. An authorized Denon service center would have to take a look at it to make sure.

Platter or motor or what?

Been seeing a lot of problems like this on the newer decks. if the lights instead of moving smoothly are moving a bit, then stopping a little, then moving a bit more. or just wobbling a little bit usually has something to do with the motors... I have also just had to have mine replaced to was having the same problem.... expensive

Platter problem

THE PITCH slider or the variable resistor could have gone faulty. A new pitch is only $25 i think. They may need to salvage the pcb from your old one as technics no longer manufacters them. I've never seen the pitch led stay on lock when the actual pitch is not at zero. Hopefully the pitch did not short out the brake or the variable resistors on the motor's circuitboard.

Technics problems

There is no drive belt on this unit. This is a direct drive turntable. Your pitch control might be on it's way out. Are you getting any sort of unusual speed issues? Or is it just sort of running slower than usual? There is a pot you can adjust under the turntable platter to speed it up a bit, however, this is only a temporary fix. It is listed as VR301 - and is on the main board under the turntable platter - it says PITCH on it. Try adjusting that pot, to see if it does anything. WORD OF CAUTION: Make sure your turntable platter is ALWAYS on whenever you power up your turntable, and if you do any electrical modifications, make sure you always disconnect your turntable from it's power source to be on the safe side. If this does not work, then either your pitch control (which is a variable resistor) will need to be replaced. The problem could also be one of the drive components on the main board, however, this will need to be worked on by a service tech. Hope this helps. - Justin

Turntable pitch control problem

sounds like the pitch needs replacing or tighting. Get them serviced. Ask your equipment supplier shop. Good way to check the decks are in sync is to place the pitch on each marked seting ie 0 / 2/ 4/etc making sure both decks are set to the same pitch adjustment speed. Look at the light from the on/off switch and check the 4x circles on the deck platter and make sure they are the same as each other. If you never used this before. set your eyes and pay attention, you will notice the pattern. I mix this way to get tunes roughly in time without listerning to the track - DJ EZ helped me with this years ago. peace DJ Nyce
