Power connection page 18 shows 12v negative wire (black) to positive & red with fuse to negative. Question is this correct? If so please confirm as we are concerned wiring incorrectly will damage the unit.
Lowrance may have goofed on the manual printing. RED is Positive, Black is negative. All these systems have reverse polarity protection. If you wire backwards, the screen will flash on and then automatically turn off.
I install these systems and I have always put the fuse hlder on the positive line at the battery. The fuse holders are always red wires and that may also lead to some confusion if they suggest attaching that to the black lead.
Hope this answers your question.
SOURCE: How does my Lowrance HDS-5
To connect a LRA 2400 to a Lowrance HDS-5 sounder/chartplotter, you can run an ethernet RJ45 cable from your Radar Processing box to the HDS-5 unit. You will need an adaptor cable for the RJ 45 cable to hook into the HDS-5 head unit. This is part no 000-0127-56.
As for the different transducer pinouts, I am not sure what transducer you have now so I cannot say if there is any kind of converter plug available, however, the HDS-5 units do seem to run best using the transducers that are made for them. Your best option may be to buy the transducer that is made for them, and this will directly connect to the display unit.
Hope that helps!
