I just purchased a 2007 VIP Vantage with an LST 3800 and it was experiencing similar problems. I noticed that the "UP" button didn't feel right when pushed, so I pulled it out of the dash and used a very small screwdriver to gently pry off the front bezel. There's a clip on each side that holds it in place, and it's fairly easy to remove. The rubber button pad had a tiny piece of plastic (it was the same material and color as the plastic in the bezel) between the bezel and the button pad that was causing the "UP" button to depress constantly. The model Elite 5x from Lowrance is a bit out dated, I currently have one on my boat, That model would require GPS signal to be able to read MPH unfortunately it does not. Not sure if they made a GPS puck for that model. That wire lead set can and probably is being used on a few different models that support that function. Hope that helps..
