Your best bet is to use the drivers from the CD.
To do this on windows 7, you'll need to use compatibility mode.
Browse to the contents of the cd in windows explorer. Right click on the driver installer file, and select "properties".
Select the "compatibility" tab from the properties window, and select "windows xp sp3" from the drop down menu. Also tick the "run as administrator" on the bottom.

I did this with my own hitachi DZ_MV350A and it worked just fine.

SOURCE: Hitachi dz mv230a DVD CAM - can't copy video to computer (WXP Pro)

Hi Boss,
here is your complete solution for your dvd cam
You will need pc drivers in order to use dvd cam
Download from the link below
http://drivers.soft5000.com/driver4465.html

Use the link below to download the manual or guide which help you in transfering data from dvd to pc
http://www.retrevo.com/support/Hitachi-DZ-MV230A-Camcorders-manual/id/201ci664/t/2/

Guide for transfering data to pc

Utilizing a USB computer connection and Hitachi's optional PC Editing Kit Software (DZ-WINPC3W), the DVD camcorders become external DVD home movie drives. Video can be transferred from the DVD camcorder to the PC for editing. After editing, the video can be transferred back to the DVD camcorder and recorded. This is where the strength of Hitachi's multi-format DVD camcorders gives consumers an unprecedented capability: 1. Record video utilizing the rewrite-able DVD-RAM format
2. Transfer the footage to the PC
3. Edit the footage on the PC
4. Transfer the footage back to the DVD camcorder and record it onto DVD-R for compatibility with most DVD players
Or if available, the video can be transferred by placing the disc into a PC's 4.7G byte DVD-RAM or DVD-ROM3 drive.

Editing steps to note:

Getting your Hitachi DVD ram vro to video cd or dvd! *note just changing the vro file to mpg does not work, what happens is you only see the 1st segment of your recordings. I went through insane amounts of hell figuring all of this out. The below method to my knowledge is the only way to do it without going insane!

Only Two Programs Needed:
DVD2AVI
TMPGENC

Basic steps are here, let me know if you need more detail:

-Copy your .vro file to your hard drive
-open dvd2avi
-load the vro file directly into dvd2avi
-do a save project (that will create 2 small files)
-close dvd2avi, you're done with it now
-now open tmpgenc
-load the video portion of your dvd2avi project (the d2v file)
-load your audio portion of your dvd2avi project (the other one)
-you're set! just output the file to svcd or whatever you like!
-need to edit the file? use tmpgenc mpeg tools and segment the clips you want, then merge them back together as 1 mpeg, it works great and no need for re-encoding!

SOURCE: Error Code 2881 will not work

Error code 2881 means that the disc is unrecognizable by the device, either because the disc ia damaged, the incorrect format, the wrong type, or the laser reader is damaged. If the laser is damaged then it must be serviced. All the other options cam be fixed by buying another disc or formatting on a computer.

Disk error 0280

Error 0280 on Hitachi mv350a DVD camera : It looks the dvd had bad spots that could not be read. After getting frustrated trying to get any info from Hitachi manuals and support, I just decided to try to extract the data directly from the dvd(fujitsu dvd-r disk). Since my DVD was not finalized I could not copy the files directly using Windows Explorer, so I tested several applications and here it's what worked for me: I downloaded isobuster (www.isobuster.com), and I was able to view the tracks on the dvd, then I used the "Extract" option to create an image directly from the faulty dvd and it created a couple of files with the extension .ibq. I checked these ibq files and two of them were huge, so I assumed those were my video data. I renamed these files from *.ibq to *.vob(isobuster has options to extract these "image files", but you need to register it first...), anyways I tried to open these new vob files with PowerDVD and they PLAYED JUST FINE :)! Finally I just used a DVD editor to load the new .vob files and I burnt a new DVD. I hope it will save you guys some time... Mihai from Romania :)

Hitachi mv350a dvdcan

I figured it out out of frustration. I used a small flat head screwdriver & gently pryed it open just above the control for turning it on/off. Inside I found that the mini-DVD was shoved in there outside of the mini-DVD sleeve thus causing a perpetual jam. Works OK now as long as my kids don't mess with it!

Canot watch on dvd or computer

You can view it through the windows media player. Open my computer, find the file in your dvd drive. Right click and select open with windows media player.
To do any editing you will need to convert it from a vro file to mpeg
