I had a Sony SPP-A941 on a 2-stud wall mount plate... Message recording quality has degraded, so I want to use a Sony SPP-A940 that I inherited that has excellent recording and playback... What part do I need to wall mount? (The back of the 2 Sony phones is completely different and definitely NOT set up for my existing 2-stud wall plate.

it acts as if it cannot see dialtone. Try pluging in a known good working phone and cord into jack. if the known good phone works try just replacing the cord. and so on until you find the faulty element

Yes, Sony Parts has them available:
800-488-7669
The stand is $107.59, and requires four screws to attach to the TV. They're $2.25. (quite the bargain!)
The model number of the stand is X21033652.
