Mitsubishi MS-65315 Deflection Failure Error, which capacitors need to be replaced?
I have been having intermittent problems with my television, where it starts to squeeze vertically, then shuts off after a few seconds. It exhibited this behavior about a year ago, and I thought I would have to replace parts, but then it started working again, until a week ago when it started acting up again. The error code I get is 2-3, which is deflection failure. As far as I can tell, this sounds like a capacitor failing, but I don't know which one, or which model number it is, to get a replacement. I was hoping to fix it by tomorrow, so family can actually watch TV on Thanksgiving. I found a couple of sites that sell repair packages, which contain the most common capacitors to replace, but they listed the model numbers wrong, and can't get me the parts in time, so now I have to figure it out and visit a parts store before they close. I can't figure it out from the service manual, so I'm kind of stuck. Any help that can be provided, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
ok there is alot of things that need to be check with this code check first: CHECK FOR LEAKY C9A60 470 PF 1000 V PART # 154P400030, PARALLEL TO
D9A57 ON THE POWER PCB . Before replacing the fly, as I have not had
any of these flys go bad, Check all of the capacitors and diodes on the
sweep power supply. This is the voltages the flyback makes for the
rest of the set. also check pin 10 of IC%A)) for voltage. If there is
voltage, the HV protect is on. Check for a shorted or leaky D5A60 in
that same circuit. i found this 15 volt zener to be bad a couple of
times. STK393-110. The IC needs to be replaced and also you must check the small fuses in the main power supply that are marked F9A04 and F9A05 also check for The "oil" is the coolant (ethylene glycol) that has seeped from its
containment to the internals of your display. While not a common
occurance, it does happen. http://www.fixya.com/howto/h159332-mitsubishi_dm_board_repair
I believe it is going to be a major repair and I would hesitate to invest much money into it. I think the age of this set is older than 5 years. The VS model series were manufactures before the WS model series and they have been around for 8 years or so. Never the less, parts availability is getting tougher. If your pain thresh hold is 300.00 or 400.00
go for it. If not, check out new sets.
Hope this helps,

Tv is old about 10 years. Shows error code 2-3 horizontal deflection failure. A few years back had a leaking crt, replaced the caps recomended ...
4. Self Diagnostics
The “Power ON LED” provides an indication of the sets operation, and the possible cause of a malfunction.
1. Initial Control Circuitry Check
Immediately after the TV is connected to an AC power source:
• The LED flashes three times ... indicating the Microprocessor has initialized and is functioning
properly.
• If the LED does not flash ... the Microprocessor is NOT functioning.
2. Error Code Operational Check
Pressing the front panel “INPUT” and “MENU” buttons at the same time, and holding for 5 seconds,
activates the Error Code Mode. The LED flashes denoting a two digit Error Code, or indicating no problem
has occured since the last Initalization.
Note: The front panel buttons must used, NOT those on the Remote Control.
• The number of flashes indicates the value of the MSD (tens digit) of the Error Code.
• The flashing then pauses for approximately 1/2 second.
• The LED then flashes indicating the value of the LSD (ones digit) of the Error Code.
• The Error Code is repeated a total of 5 times.
Example: For Error Code is “24”, the LED will flash 2 times, pause, and then flash 4 times.
3. Error Codes
The Error Code designations indicating a malfunction, or no malfunction, are listed below:
“12” ... indicates no error has occured.
“21” ... X-Ray Protect circuit.
“22” ... Short Protect circuit.
“23” ... Horizontal Deflection failure.
“24” ... Vertical Deflection failure.5. Circuit Adjustment Mode
Most of the adjustments can only be performed using the remote hand unit. Many of the adjustments must
be performed in both the NTSC and HD modes. Video/Color adjustments must be performed in the NTSC
and HD modes, and data must be preset in the 480P (DVD) and VGA modes.
Good Day, cutito35;
1. This model is equipped with a keyboard lock feature; this can be mistaken as a no power condition. To unlock the keyboard press and hold the "menu" button on the front panel for 10 seconds. 2. (Power LED may be on after plug in) check for no less than 4.4 volts DC at pin 3 of PC9A21 on the Power PCB, if low or missing replace PC9A21 part # 268P058020.
2.This model is also equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source) 1. Shutdown at power with self diagnosis error 2-2. Check for open fuses F9A04 and F9A05 part # 283P144080 on the +24 and -24 volt lines. If the fuses are open the convergence output circuit would be suspect. 2. Shutdown at power with self diagnosis error 2-1. At power on check for 12-volts DC at connector KH pin 8, if missing check IC9C51 part # 270P990010 and L9C52 part # 441D009020 on the Signal PCB. Good Luck, big IRISH.
ok 12 means no error detected so your set must have a standby voltage problem which is preventing the set from powering up. possibly a low voltage regulator is defective.
Need to know more, 1-2 is no error code, you say will not turn on, do it has led light on or do you hear sound in set like high voltage? Any lights blinking? Or just completely dead, like fuse blown?
Unfortunately, problems in the deflection circuit can involve expensive parts. This type of repair is not for the do it yourselfers. It requires proper test equipment and diagnostic experience. Look to spend at least $350 and up. Maybe Santa will bring you a new plasma for Christmas. Good luck
