Why does my combo tv/dvd only play dvds in black and white? is it broken?

Check its settings. Get into its menu, and select picture settings. Set the color system to 'Auto' there. If wrong setting is done there, only B/W picture will be displayed.

Tunner? Picture whites out

Is this when you are watching a DVD, or Tape, or when watching TV using the Combo's tuner? The effect you describe is caused by the video signal losing its DC level.
Hope Ya Fix it.

DVD player wont show picture

to turn it off select connection method 3 above and progressive scanning mode, to set the mode, set progressive to off in the display menu so that the p scan indicator light on the front panel goes out. do all of this in interface mode. you can also do this by pressing and holding PLAY > on the front of the unit for more than 5 seconds, still watch for the p scan indicator to go off. this works best when the unit is connected directly to the television.
