Yeah for sure you aren't going to want to use it until the cooling fan is operational, you're lucky that you didn't kill it altogether. Try unplugging the fan wire, cleaning the metal contacts, and plugging it back in. If that doesn't do it, replace it. If you can't buy aftermarket cooling fans, try looking for wii parts on ebay. Aside from that, do all you can to keep it cool..... don't stack it in-between other warm electronic components (tv, dvd player, etc.), don't place it on a carpeted floor (the carpet will insulate the heat and keep it warm), etc.

apprecaite that i will do what u suggest, if it still doe not work, is the usb cooling fan for wiii console of any use or am i better just putting a new fan in the console

You're welcome. I'm not sure of what to suggest with the cooling fan, I'd kind of have to see what you have (my knowlege is electronics based and not wii specific). The important thing is to have air circulating through and cooling the electrical components inside that console.... really whichever product you feel will do the job best. Good luck!

Console freezes up & makes a noise during play

Wii noises are usually due to either a faulty fan or disk drive. Either one can cause the Wii to freeze up as a faulty fan can cause overheating and a faulty disk drive can slow disk reading down to where it freezes waiting for the data from the drive. It should be serviced or replaced.

WII KEPS FREEZING PLZ ANSWER

Most likely, your system is overheating. Make sure you have several inches of space all the way around your system (except of course underneath it) and that it's not in an enclosed space. The system will shut itself off to keep from breaking. Good luck!

My Wii sometimes freezes.

If it just does it for that game at that point, he game might be defective or have a scratch or something... Generally though, to prevent the Wii from freezing up, make sure it has plenty of airflow and its fans aren't covered up. Even still, if you play it for a very long period of time it can overheat and freeze.

My wii freezes in-game and won't respond at all

It almost sounds like the Wii is overheating. Make sure the unit is in a well ventilated area and that it isn't dusty (some canned air will help with that.) Also, change the orientation of the system. i.e. if it is on it's side, lay it down flat, if it is flat put it on its side.
