My wife's Dell Inspiron 6000 has developed a problem when booting up. After the WindowsXP screen, the screen goes black. The Windows sound is heard, so I presume the machine is running OK, but there is no display. When using F8 and entering Safe Mode, the display works fine. Can anyone suggest a fix for me?
I have tried system restore from the Safe Mode, but the problem still exists
Would the best option be for a complete Windows re-install??I have tried system restore from the Safe Mode, but the problem still exists

Sorry forgot something. Did you try System Restore to really early times? Try going back further than you have already.Sorry forgot something. Did you try System Restore to really early times? Try going back further than you have already.

From the description the hard drive has failed or windows has corrupt files. Unplug power supply from laptop and remove main battery, press and hold power for 2 minutes to remove residual voltage. when finished install battery and power supply now power up.
Sounds like a definite no boot issue. Turn the system on to the diagnostics (Fn + Power) see if the diagnostics show a failure. If the hard drive passes diagnostics, then boot to the XP CD and try repairing the WIndows installtion
Have you tried this: 1. After removing the battery 2. Press and hold the power button for at least 10 sec. 3. Put back the battery 4. Turn it on
if this doesnt work, there could be a problem with your operating system. Try accessing safe mode if you can login .TAP F8 continously on the dell logo screen, and it will open advance boot options. (Just select safe mode) If safe mode boots properly try running system restore to restore it back to the previous date where your computer is still booting to windows. Hope this helps
When you see the Dell logo, it means the system is booting and you see the splash screen that is generated on the motherboard. Apparently this is where it is stopping. Here's what I would do: First when you boot the computer, press F12 to get the boot options. Choose the diagnostics and run the system diagnostics. You can also try to press F8 to get the computer into safe mode, but I'm thinking if you see nothing other than the splash screen, that may not work. If you are presented with Windows boot options, choose safe mode and do a system restore. The last thing you can do if you have the Dell system recovery disk is try to do a repair from that CD if it allows you to do so.
Dell Inspiron 6000 are notorious for developing screen faults. Dell won't do anything about it unless under warranty. Have the screen replaced by a repair shop unless you feel confident enough to do it yourself.
This sounds like your video settings could be set improperly, did you attempt to boot up in safe mode and then change your display options? Sometimes you need to monkey with windows to get it to accept new video settings, try removing the video display from the control panel, if this has been done and you can't correct the issue a reload may be in order or at worst case you may have a malfunctioning video card
open RUN from start menu and type msconfig. On the "system configuration utility" open services tab and chk for windows audio and make sure its running, if not then select it and just enable it.
Well it is most likely a issue with the Video driver as you are able to boot to the safe mode.I would suggest going back to the safe mode and deleting the present driver for the video from the device manager.before you restart the system just download the latest version from the support.dell.com so that you can reinstall it.Also check in the graphic properties which screen is set to be the defuat.Incase still not working i would suggest reinstalling the operating system before replacing any hardware.
