Just purchased the Beavertail Phantom and unfortunately it came with little instructions/information. What is the plug for? Just draining or does it require adding water to the kayak base?

I don't know that model, but I am sure it is for draining. You only add water if you want to sink!!!!!!!!!

Trying to connect sure MX393 mic with Camcorder

The MX393 requires phantom power. Unfortunately, camcorders do not have phantom power. Thus, you'll need an adapter box to go in between. Beachtek makes some nice interfaces. Make certain the Beachtek interface has phantom power.

I just bought the GXL2200 CAD microphone without the cabels,(thought they would've came with), what kind of cable do i need?

As with most microphones, these mics use XLR cables. You can get them online or in a music store in many different lengths. What you need is XLR male to XLR female, though most of the consumer-level stores will probably just call them "mic cables." Note that the thing you're plugging into will need to have an XLR input, and will need to provide phantom power in order for that mic to work.

Shure MX418C connection to a wireless bodypack

The MX418 requires phantom power. Unfortunately, a wireless bodypack does not provide phantom power. Thus, you would need to insert a phantom power adapter in between the mic and the bodypack.

Brand New Shure SM86 does not work, what's wrong never use it.

The SM86 requires phantom power. Make certain the mixer that you are plugging into has phantom power turned on. Contact the mixer manufacturer for instructions.

Hi, I bought the Shure Beta 98H/C phantom powered clip on mic and was told(and read online) I could use the MX1BP as a battery preamp for the microphone when phantom power was not available. So looking at...

That will not work. The Beta 87H/C already has a preamp built into it. That preamp requires phantom power. The MX1BP is another preamp, so you would not need it, due to the preamp that is built in.

If you do not have phantom power available, then purchase an external phantom power supply.

Can't operate my MXL 990

If it is an MXL 990 Condenser that comes in the grey case with a shockmount and a black hard mount I can solve your problem. (If it is USB I know nothing about that unit).

This MXL 990 microphone MUST have 48v phantom power in order to operate. If you aren't familiar with the term phantom power read the first link:

Phantom power - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantom_power
MXL User Guide - http://www.mxlmics.com/support/guides.html

If yours is one of the older MXL 990's it should have an XLR connector on the bottom -
XLR Defined - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XLR_connector

Your mixer (I am guessing its a Peavey, Tascam, Mackie) or something entry level like that may or may not have phantom power. I am guessing not. But if it does, it will have a switch that says 48v phantom power and most likely a green or red LED next to it to show you when its on. This mic will NOT work without phantom power.

Best suggestion: Verify that your mic is the MXL 990 Condenser, if it is it needs 48v phantom power. Check your mixer and see if it has 48v phantom power. The only computer soundcard that I know of that is used by a lot of folks is the M-Audio Delta 1010LT. It has XLR inputs but NO phantom power on it.

There's your answer.
