Cleaning water tray

I just purchased a Honeywell humidifier HWM 450 The manual states it should be cleaned before first use. First it states to remove the water tray. Then, it says to pour 1 cup undiluted white vinegar into the tray.

Obviously, once removed, the liquid will run out. So- I need to confirm my assumption that the vinegar needs to be added while attached to the humidifier. Is this correct?

I usually just balance the tray upside down on top of the base and fill the edges with vinegar. You could also put the the tray in a bowl filled with vinegar and submerge the whole thing.

Why does my Honeywell HMW450 humidifier keep shutting off?

Here are a few things to check:

-make sure the heating element is clean. If there is a thick layer of scale (mineral deposit), then the unit will not turn on.
-there are magnets on the water reservoir that allow the unit to turn on. If these magnets are not lined up properly, then the unit thinks there is no tank, and thus, not turn on.
-turn the humidity up past your target point. The humidity near the unit could be a lot higher than the rest of the room, causing it to shut off prematurely.

Hope this helps!

Warm Mist HWM-2030 Humidifier: DOES NOT GIVE OFF VAPOR...

If the unit runs normally otherwise, but doesn't give off vapor, then your heating element is the culprit. i.e. if fan runs, switches in normal positions, indicating lights on, etc.and restart slide switch depressed and no mist, then, yes the heating element is the source of the problem. It may be bad, or otherwise it may just be scaled up from hard water, and require cleaning.

Honeywell HWM 450

I found a solution to our problem with the fill cap failing/leaking. It was/is not the cap, it’s the gasket/grommet/o-ring. Remember “THE MAGIC BULLET”, well the gasket, that’s where you tighten the top to the bottom, some are white and some are black, THEY FIT the Honeywell HWM450!!! ------- Problem solved.

Unit turns off Mid Stream

The part of the machine that draws water up from the bottom, as well as the bottom tray, need to be cleaned from time to time, or it cannot accept water and will indicate the tank is empty. After removing the tank, unlock the top from the bottom by moving the small lever in the area the tank sits, then pull the entire top section off of the bottom tray. Dump the old water out, then put a solution of vinegar and water in the accepting section of the tray. Replace the top and let that set for a few hours to remove buildup. You may need to use a silicone scraper or something if there is significant buildup. Pour out the vinegar solution and rinse all of those sections off with clean water. Replace the top, lock the bar, and return the tank. Your problem should be fixed.
