How to completely reset a dsi?

If you have forgotten the PIN, select the "I forgot". This will bring you to your secret question. Use the on-screen keyboard to answer it in the empty text box. Select the "ok" to finish.

If you can't remember either the PIN or the secret answer, then the Parental Controls will have to be reset. Call Nintendo's technical support at 1-800-255-3700 for assistance. Hope this helps.

If you have forgotten your pin, as well as the answer to your secret question, you can call customer support at 1-800-255-3700 for assistance in resetting your device.
The only other way is a full system restore using the, "Format System Memory" option on the fourth page of system settings.

Hello sostylish48 and welcome to FixYa. If you forgot your PIN number this may be of assistance. Upon the purchase of your DSi you should have setup a secret question. If you did follow these steps. Select the (I Forgot) option at the PIN screen. Next enter the answer using the touchscreen keyboard. If this does not work your parental controls will have to be reset. You will have to call 1-800-255-3700 for further assistance. Best of luck to you.

If you are setting up the Parental Controls for the first time, you would do the following:

1) On the Nintendo DSi Menu, use the stylus to select the Settings (Wrench) icon.
2) Using the right arrow scroll through the fist 2 pages till you get to the third page where you will find "Parental Control".
3) You will select "Yes" to the first query, "Next" to the second, and "OK" to the third query, and you will reach the PIN selection page.
4) Choose "Next", enter a four digit PIN, then choose "OK". You will then have to enter the PIN a second time and choose "OK" again.
5) You will then be given a choice of secret questions to choose to help you in case you ever forget your PIN. Enter your answer, and make sure you make a note of the answer in a safe place in case you forget the answer you chose.

If you try to change or remove the Parental Controls at a later date you will have to be able to enter your PIN. If you cannot remember it you will then have to give the correct answer to the secret question you chose. If you cannot remember your answer you will then have to contact Nintendo for assistance in resetting your machine. The phone number to call is 1-800-255-3700.

The other solution is to go over to http://wii.marcansoft.com/parental.psp and from here, you can provide the confirmation number on your DSi, and get your reset code. Unlike the 1-800-255-3700 solution, this one is available 24/7.

Despite it saying Wii Parental control reset tool, it also applies to DSi as well.
