Blackberry curve 8520 get extra hot and battery drains i have to charge it everyday not holding charge

Try removing the battery for about 20 seconds and then put it back in and restart the phone. This is a form of a hard reset but it will not erase anything.

are you using the charger that came with the BlackBerry?
cause sometimes that can make a difference.
otherwise you might just need to get a new charger.
and usually the wall chargers work the best.
i had a BlackBerry Pearl 8100 and the same thing happened to mine.

The walk thru for updating your phone software is quite extensive (would be alot of typing). First you need to check your software version against your provider's most recent version. You find this by going to settings>options>about. When you update there are two main things you must have - 1.) the most recent version of Blackberry Desktop Manager and 2.) the most recent version of your device software, both are installed on your computer and should be available though the Blackberry website. I can provide you with KB article numbers from the Blackberry support site for the rest. Go to www.blackberry.com/support and search KB13427 and KB03621.

Sorry to say, I encountered this same problem. I checked the prongs, used different power cords, different outlets, usb cord, and different batteries and yet still nothing worked. The only remedy to this situation is replacing the phone.
