Thanks everyone for your suggestions, i will pass them on to my son-in-law who is going to look at my scooter on saturday.

  • Anonymous Aug 07, 2012

Well, my son-in-law gave scooter a service and a good clean but couldn't find anything wrong. However, after he'd finnished it was working! Took it for a test drive, all ok. Went out the next day, ok. then the following day the beeping started again and it wouldn't move. Oh well, back to the drawing board. Thanks again for your suggestions, they were a big help.

Update on my scooter problem. Got an engineer out and he found the fault. The carbon brushes had worn down at an angle, they were replaced and my scooter works fine now.

Either your parking brake is engaged or if your scooter is more like mine i have a Rascal 600t it gives a code 5 service code when it thinks its in free wheel. Your scooter is dropping into a fail safe mode and is telling you this by beeping. Most scooters have a service light on the tiller head that will flash out the failure code of the failure detected. Does your beep a number of times pause then beep this same pattern. The freewheel mechanism is located on the trans-axle which if you go outside across grass it gets wet. This device doesn't like moister and will get stiff will partially engage or disengage. In that mechanism there is a micro-switch which if the lever when slipped into the engaged position doesn't go all the way to the seated position the switch will see the mechanism as being disengaged [in free wheel] and will inhibit the motor from running. I lubricate the entire assembly with pure silicon spray oil,WARNING, do not use WD-40, It will eat some plastics. After lubricating the lever should move smoothly. I have to lub my scooter about once a month in the winter.

Now if this doesn't work check the connector that are all the wires are connected. Disconnect the connector check the pins are ok reconnect check to see if your still getting the failure. If you are still getting this problem do continuity checks on the wiring. You will need a multimeter only $9
http://www.amazon.com/Mastech-YG188-Pocket-size-analog-multimeter/dp/B00064CH6A/ref=sr_1_8?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1339024102&sr=1-8 Check the switch in the freewheel assembly. Select ohms the highest scale, short the leads together, zero the meter by turning the zero adjust knob. There is only one wire we are interested in. On some scooters you can visually see the switch and the wire running from it. The wire usually foes to a spade connector. Disconnect the spade connector put a probe on that connector leading to the switch. Disconnect the battery put other probe on the positive side of the terminals that were connected to the battery not to the battery it side.Work the switch does the meter needle deflect to zero, no, try the negative side. Does the meter deflect, no, put the probes directly on the switch terminals, does the switch.when worked now cause the meter to deflect, no, replace switch, yes, the problem is in the harness, don't panic, use can use that meter to trace the wire through the harness. Wiggling wires and flexing connectors usually makes the meter flick at some point. Thats how i do it i'm never without my trusty meter. Rascal are notorious for having problems of this type my mid-frame harness fell apart in the middle of a six lane intersection, the scooter simply locks up tight .I can do nothing but sit in the middle of this huge intersection. People try to move me but the scooters wheels are locked, my illness makes it so i can't communicate with people do it was a mess. So i modified the connector so its no longer a latch type connector. I drilled it for a quick pin which is much stronger than what its using now. Hope this helps

SOURCE: when you turn on key

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!

Well, that could be due to multiple reasons, you need to double check each possibility one by one to rectify the problem.
Make sure that the charger is working properly and the batteries are properly charged and aren't showing fake charging. The battery(ies) are capable of storing charge efficiently.
Also do make sure, that the gears mechanism that converts electrical to rotational mechanical energy are working properly, and there is no obstacle in there movement nor the braking mechanism is blocking the movement.

Hope, now you get a wider picture on how to tackle with the scenario. Kindly do perform the general test and do let me know, what you found. Hoping to hear from you soon.

Have a nice day,
Concerned.

SOURCE: my echo 3 scooter beeps as soon as I turn on the

Boy I hate working on scooters too many things can go wrong to make them not work. First make sure you are not in freewheel Make sure the lever at the rear of the scooter is in drive position. and you can't push the scooter easily without powering it up. If its not in freewheel then the problem could be a throttle pot problem or a speed pot problem or even a motor problem and there is no way I can troubleshoot your problem in this format. I would suggest that you have your provider check it or if Medicare paid for it have a repair service fix it for you. Sorry can't really give you a precise answer on whats wrong Good Luck Hope this helps

Riding my TGA Supersport mobility scooter when I paused at a road crossing, went to pull off and it wont move forward or backwards. Any ideas?

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to Mobility Scooters albeit wrong make.

Likely to be a controller issue so needs dealer diagnosis. Others have had the same happen to them.

Can you help me try to figure out why my scooter will not move forward or backward? It is fully charged and the horn works.

I would get the batteries checked for power. Just because your charger shows fully charged quite often the batteries are low but enough power for lights or horn which does not take much power. i suspect bad batteries.

If the scooter functions OK backwards & forwards and drives the distance you require, then i would hazard a guess at the PCB in the tiller head, paired with BDI (Battery Display Indicator).
Batteries on the Breeze are most likely 70-100ah, and ideally must be kept charged, either after use or at least once per week if you are not using it. Failing to do so will end up costing a lot of money :-)

Mobility scooter - Electrics work, but won't go

hi, they are a nice scooter so let's get it working ,
First check that the freewheel lever is disengaged, in drive mode.
Do you hear a click when pressing the lever to go forward or backwards?

What can happen is the brake located on the side of the motor can seize,,,
Please keep me updated

Scooter won't move

Things to check: Drive/Free wheeling switch, brake release lever (this activates an internal micro-switch that enable power to the drive system, battery box connectors (condition of contacts - corroded, missing, loose. etc.); main control cable (corrosion. lose or missing pins, etc). If all these are OK, could be controller or drive control potentiometers (speed, forward, backward) on the handle-bar (tiller).
Good luck!

Sounds like your joystick is damaged. This chair probably has a PG Drives Technology joystick that serves as both the joystick control and acts as the power control module. If it has been damaged by say, running into a wall or doorway or table, this can be the cause, or if it has gotten moisture inside it, that will hurt it as well. Other possibilities are overloading the chair past its weight capacity or driving it over unstable terrain like sand, gravel, much etc.

It is possible the the battery could be damaged after being stored for that length of time. If it was wasn't completely charged before storage, or if it was exposed to extreme temperatures (even for a short amount of time) you may need to find a replacement battery. http://www.batteryinternational.com/electric-scooter-batteries.html should have the battery you need.
