I have an NEC Multisync LCD 1770GX monitor. Is it possible for something to interfere with the display? I see screen distortion on and off during the day. It looks like 'snowy' flickering that mostly affects darker areas of the screen but at times can affect lighter areas as well. Sometimes it is barely visible - I can see light flickering in the blue areas in 'Windows', and other times it is quite severe to the point where I can't read items on my task/tool bar. It can stop very abruptly, leaving me with my normal clear picture.

Cables usually give up first. If you can substitute the cable or another monitor try that. If you see the same thing on the monitor, you have eliminated the cable. If you have another monitor you can beg borrow or steal from a friend, try doing that. If the problem still follows, then you have eliminated the monitor and the video card is the only thing left. If your PC has a built-in video card then the motherboard is toast

SOURCE: monitor power shuts off without warning

You might check the filter capacitor on the power supply and see if it is swelling or shorted.

My NEC MultiSync LCD 1765 monitor boots up to the lowest resolution available. When I attempt to correct the resolution through the Display Options in my Control Panel Settings, I set it at the highest...

Try connecting the NEC to a different computer, to see if it correctly accepts 1280-by-1024.
If so, then there's nothing wrong with the monitor, and the fault lies with either the video-adapter in your computer, or something messed-up with your installed copy of Windows.
Try replacing the video-adapter.

An 'etch-a-sketch' - type image that at quick glance, looks like an elephant, appears in the upper right section of the screen. It isn't captured with print screen. Swapped out monitors to different CPUs....

I did see a similar issue with a Gateway display, the source of the image was the screen is damaged by the cover inside the screen. Basically, the inside frame was scratching the back of the screen making the image to appear until it damages the screen enough to turn off pixels.

Another possible cause are: "burned pixels", some kind of damage (liquids inside the display), the display was hit, or something like that.

The only solution is to replace the display or use it until is breaks (but it will be quite annoying).

I want to use a NEC Multisync 1700V monitor as an external display for my Thinkpad T400. However I get no image when I hook up the laptop and change the display scheme to display on my laptop screen +...

The only I can think of is the resolution setting that your T400 is putting out that your NEC does not like andcannot display, look at the T42 resolution when the NEC is hooked up to it and try to set it to be the same in the T400.

NEC multiSync 1700V as external monitor for Notebook Toshiba U205, Operating System Window Vista Home Premium. It displays only part (80%) of the picture compared with notebook's monitor.

Hi, if the 17 inch lcd screen is not a widescreen then the problem with the screen is possibly nothing more than the aspect ratio or resolution, which ever way you wanna look at it. All laptops have a widescreen type of ratio, so you will have to be either willing to change the resolution when you switch screens or setup different profiles, which you should beable to do through control panel, appearance and then personalization, you will then have access to it.

Power on Green but no display (blank screen)

In the LCD1830 the inverter for the backlight always burns out. They are fairly easy to replace when you remove the back to get inside. A new one is available from MoniServ for $69.99. http://www.lcdpart.com/Products/uhp061104mss.html
