I've had this player (trutech smp-1 gbl from target) for a little more than a week, and it's been working fine up until now.Once, when I turned it on, it just showed the blue backlit screen which says “MP3 Player” for about 1 second, then turned off. Then the screen flashed again for 1 sec, then went to a black screen again. This would keep going forever.I couldn’t even turn it off! (unless I took out the battery.) I thought this was a battery issue since I’ve been using it for some time, so I put in new batteries again and again, but it still doesn’t work! Please help, this is an urgent problem.
With Fresh batteries the MP3 player will not stay on. When plugged into the computer it says the songs are all on there but when we unplug in from the computer it will not com on. Also like the other person we have had it for 2 weeks. With Fresh batteries the MP3 player will not stay on. What is happening when you turn the device on? Does it go on and then shut off? If so you will have to reformat the drive for the mp3 player. Simply plug the mp3 player in and click the drive that appears for the player. It should say this device needs to be formatted. Then just follow the steps. Keep in mind you will lost your songs. If the device stays on, do you see your first song on the list. If you do, try pushing the play button, (very last one on bottom) hard.

Please try to reset the player and see whether it helps. This could be done by inserting a paper clip into the reset hole and press and hold for about 20 seconds.
If this does not help it could be software related issue. Upgrade the firmware via manufacturer's web site.
Usually Windows Media Player 10 or above should be enough. For this model, there won't be any driver exclusively unless included with the player when shipped.
