You might be able to get it looked at under warranty if it's less than a year old.
Otherwise, have a look at this:http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/First-Look/iPod/iPod-Touch You'll need some tools to do it, but they can be bought from the iFixIt site.
If it's jammed in there really badly you might need to replace the headphone jack itself, which may be part of the logic board. Could be a pretty expensive repair job if you choose to DIY. I'd definitely see if Apple will fix it either under warranty or for a fee. Much easier.
Anyway, iFixIt has all the parts for the iPod Touch here: http://www.ifixit.com/Products/Touch-1st-Gen/132
Good luck!

Headphone jack is broken INSIDE the port and is overriding the speakers. Can I override this override?

Or instead of having to open up your computer and messing with the mobo. Just use the control panel in to disable the headphone jack.

On deaf ear

sounds like headphone jack is either dirty or loose in the unit or a possible blown fuse.

if still under warrenty I would get it serviced if not then if you feel comfortable opening it up and looking around the inside of the unit around the sounds output jack then you can try that and see if you can find any blown or burnt problems around there loose connections.

Speakers not working

Try restoring the ipod or cleaning the ipod jack first. Usually it is caused by the dirt accumulated inside the jack. The ipod thinks there is a headphone inserted even when there is none.

They work on my itouch but not on my computer

if the jack on the headphone fits firmly in the audio jack it should work unless you have 2.5mm headphones with a 3.5mm jack on the computer which would make you have to buy a new jack. Also try updating the sound driver on your computer.

I cant get any sound when i plug in the 8GB iTouch

Chances are it's the docking module... try pulling the ipod forward and see if you get some sound.

One can slip something in behind the ipod to prop it so it will give sound sometimes but overtime the problem gets worse in my experience.

There's the Auxillary input as well in the back... i.e. running an adapter from the headphone jack to the back. For an Ipod Classic one can leave it in the docking station re-charging - for the nano, with the headphone jack on the bottom it can't be placed in the docking station (though can be - recharged when not plugged in)

Don't forget to switch the selection to Auxiliary rather than Ipod

That being said, in terms of sound quality, the quality is much better (highs are higher) when plugged into the docking station compared to the Auxiliary input

My itouch earphone jack creates static in earphones.

sounds like the typical ipod and ipod touch common situation. It seems to be the dreaded headphone jack on the bottom or top of the device has gone belly up. You can either take it to your local apple store or look online and search your problem and see if anyone else has the same issues you have and see what can be done. You can send it to ipodsquad.com to get repairs or check your local apple store.

ITouch 2nd g only plays music throuhg left side of all headphones

Try playing with the headphone plug, until you can also hear the right
channel and also try a different set of headphones as it is probably a
matter of an intermittent headphone jack, or plug, owing to sudden
snatching of the headphone plug from same, a very common problem.

Eliminate this cause before submitting your Touch for much more
expensive remedies

Head phones

You need to get a new head phone jack installed. It should be free if it is still under warranty.
