Wal-mart's computer care is a scam.

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop back in June of 2008 and was it was strongly suggested that I buy the 2 year extended service plan. The cost of the plan was almost 20% of the total cost. I asked what that would get me and I was told that with it if anything happened to the laptop I would simply need to bring it back to them and they would replace it.

So now that the laptop will not turn on, I take it back and I'm told I have to call a number and go through that process. I was told one before I purchased and the reality turned out to be different after the purchase. SCAM.

So I called the number and after working my way through the various menu options it tells me to go to www.repairnow.com/walmart which I do. There I attempt to open a service request and guess WHAT? It tells me to call the same number I called to begin with!

So I call it again and I choose different options, ANY options in order to talk to a HUMAN but I can't because all the options end up with a "We're experiencing technical difficulties. Please call back later."

How do you like that!? I paid $100 for THAT!

This is a SCAM! I cannot get anyone at Walmart or at www.repairnow.com to help me even OPEN a repair request!

SCAM! Never buy a warranty repair plan. They will tell you anything to get you to buy it and they'll do everything to avoid fixing things!

Shame on both those companies!

I work for the Wal-Mart PC Care program. The PC Care program is free, it provides assistance in installing a year worth of virus protection. Anything beyond that is on a pay for fee service. It does not replace the original Dell warranty (which as pointed out) you were under. The little card board disk hold clearly states that you should save your receipt here. The receipt can be generated again at the local store. A customer can also purchase an extended service that comes info effect after the original warranty expires. It is not a bad plan, but it does pay to read and know what the plan covers. You still need to contact Dell as you are under their warranty. Pre-existing conditions are not covered by any extended service plan.

If you bought it in June of 2008, then you still have a Dell 1 year warranty on it, your extended warranty has not yet taken affect.

You may need to register with dell on their retail sales registration site in order to get coverage.

The only thing you need is the Service Tag as far as know, which is on a sticker either under the system, or under the battery.

In the US Walmart systems are covered for 1 year by Dell directly.

  • Anonymous Mar 23, 2009

Also, you can call Customer Care to handle any registration issues, trhis way it may be processed quicker than through the website.

Only Best Buy systems are not sold with Dell Warranties

Go to the Wal Mart and ask for the store manager.
Tell the manager your story and warn them if they can not solve the problem in store you will send your story to all local newspaper and all newsgroups in Internet.
Don't forget, it is now "buyers market".

I bought my Gateway laptop @ Walmart about 20 months ago .Buying the Gateway was a mistake , but paying the $100 for the 2 year extended warrantee from Walmart ,was the best thing I ever did , and here's why ...the laptop has had to be sent away 5 times for various ailments ....the 2 times that occurred within a year of purchase , was Gateway's responsibility . The 2 x I had to send it to them , they insisted it be sent UPS , which I had to pay one way each time , and it was $70 each time . Come to think of it , they goofed up something else , unrelated to the original prob while they had my computer ! When 1 yr passed and Walmart's 2 yr extended kicked in , I got great online tech help , remote fixes , and even tho' the thing needed to go to the hospital 3 x , walmart paid the shipping everytime . If it werent for that 2 year ex. warr. I would'nt even have a working computer right now !

Wish I could agree. I've had terrible service with a total lemon of a computer bought from Walmart. (Dell Inspiron). Went to the store (under warranty) for a replacement, told I had to use a website which never works, finally told I have to call Walmart's service line, which tells me I have to call tech support first. meanwhile, the warranty expires, and not they refuse to replace. Each call takes a good two hours to get through all the **** and explain the entire thing over and over to a series of people who are totally clueless. Now stuck sending the computer away for who knows how long - and based on what I see online of their track records, with a dismal chance of every getting a computer back in working order. Meanwhile my daughter is without a computer for her college work. I am TOTALLY frustrated with WALMART and DELL and would advise anyone to NEVER buy a computer or anything more complicated than an extension cord from either of these companies.

They were in the process of changing service providers which has been completed now. I called recently and accessed the site and all is well. They did not intentionally scam you. It was just growing pains. I suggest you take a deep breath and try again.

I bought my Gateway laptop @ Walmart about 22 months ago with additional 2 year warranty. i was told pretty much everything is covered. first and only problem now experiencing battery problems with short life after full charge. wal marts warranty tells me batteries are not included in this extended warranty.i stopped back at the wal mart store and asked all sales people if the extended warranty covers internal batteries, they all assured me yes it does identical to the person who no longer works there 22 months ago.The warranty is pretty much useless and nothing but clear profit to wal marts

I purchased a battery from atbatt.com that said it was compatible with my inspiron 9400. It must be good because my computer will power on with it. I also purchased a new targus charger from Wal-mart which...

Hello.

Return your power adapter to Walmart and replace. I'd suggest taking the laptop with you to further test in the store with the adapter you buy. Be certain that the new power adapter is compatible with the specific Dell Inspiron notebook series that you own.

Hope this helps.

My adapter will not charge the battery on my laptop computer

These go bad all the time and are not covered by Dell's warranty. I'd suggest getting one on EBay...they usually run around $100-$120. You could purchase a universal charger at Wal-Mart, however, I can't really speak to the quality of these.

Ink from wal-mart

Like any other product, there will sometimes be defective cartridges. Take the one back your printer is complaining about back to Wal-Mart and exchange it as defective. They'll just send it back to the manufacturer. (Sometimes it's easy to overlook the possibility a new part is bad. It's a real pain when that happens, but it does.)

Pls suggest a LAPTOP

I like Dell computers. They seem to be responsible as a computer retailer overall as far as service and support goes.

Dell is good about keeping their products out of Wal Mart, Costco, and Sam's Club because to sell to them would require making shortcuts and cutting into their product lines.

Best Buy is selling the Dell line now if you don't want to go to Dell.com.

As a computer technician with several years experience, I have seen poor quality from HP, Compaq, and Toshiba and a lot of service repairs in their product lines. A lot of that stems from selling to Wal Mart.
