I was take to back road and I would like a more 4 lane hwy. how can i progam for it

What on earth has this parochial question got to do with photographic equipment ? Ask the council, or whoever is responsible.

My route home has that,2 lanes ,then into one,there's a sign,telling you to merge left.Have to be paying attention when on this strip of road.

SETTINGS > ROUTING > ROUTE PREFERENCE > and there use FASTER TIME or SHORTER DISTANCE;
DONE
and go back to ROUTING > AVOIDANCE SETUP and check
Carpool Lanes
Ferries
Toll Roads
U-Turns
Unpaved Roads
Minor Roads

These things are miles from perfect. However, if you knew of the freeway route, you should have taken it. Remember, a PND is only useful when you don't know where you are and can often be confusing if you're using it to direct you to place that you know.
