Hoover mod # V5753-960 is very noisy after new belt installed. Belt is generic but supposedly is right for this model. Generic bought at Walmart) No noice when run without belt and roller in place. Anyone have trouble with generic belts?
I am having this same problem and I am using genuine parts. I spent a significant amount of time cleaning and maintaining the roller and am still having this issue. I have noticed that if I apply pressure to the top of the vacuum while it is operating I do not have this issue. Once operated in this manner for more then 15 minutes my brand new belt breaks. Any thoughts?

What is the belt # you have installed (generic)? Yes, there are problems with using generic belts on Hoover Vacuums. If you have noise I would suspect the roller, and replace it. the cost is about $25 and is something that you can install. The newer type are mande of wood and are very quiet.

Belt around brush roller is worn, it spins freely when there is no pressure on it. But put it on the floor, the belt won't turn the brushes. I suggest taking unit to vac repair shop for new belt installation

http://geeksquad.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?prdid=0&thid=783732 Generic problem for all Vacuums Beater brushes sometimes work and Posted by patarmao on Jul 14, 2008 Beater brushes sometimes work and very often not. Hoover WindTunnel bagless and beltless. Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Your problem is that you may need to change the belt every 4 to 6 months as a recommended belt change on the vacuum and also keep an eye on the brushes or brush strips, they also help in the vacuum working properly. Here is a typical belt change on a Hoover. Normally there are screws, clips or levers that would remove the bottom plate or if that does not work then the top cover will come off and that will expose the belt. Once that is off and the belt is exposed then cut off the old belt and then lift up the brushroll on the pulley end and install the new belt around the pulley end and re-install the brushroll. Then use a belt puller or a screwdriver with a bent right or left end to stretch the belt onto the motor pulley and then track the belt in a straight line and reverse you steps in the reinstall of the top cover or bottom plate. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions. http://www.hoover.com Telephone Contact our Customer Service Department at 1.330.499.9499 Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. EST Thanks, Don the Vac Man Go Ahead. Usually there are screws, clips or levers on the bottom of the vacuum and you need to either remove the bottom plate and once you have taken the screws, etc. out the top cover will come off. And then you can proceed with the removal and the install of the new belt. 1st you need to remove @ least one end of the Hoover brushroll and take of the old belt and slide on a new belt. Once the belt is on the pulley side of the brushroll; then re-install the brushroll. Make sure that the brush is spinning freely B4 you install the new belt, then take a belt puller or a screwdriver with a left or right hand hook to use as a belt puller and then stretch the belt onto the motor pulley, then take and roll the belt until it is tracking straight and then re-install the top cover and or the bottom plate, tighten down the screws, levers or clips. http://www.geeksquad.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?prdid=0&thid=542810 Generic problem for all Vacuums Hello I have a Hoover Posted by rrunner on Apr 24, 2008
Hello I have a Hoover vacuum cleaner, it's an older one model number 44535830.....I bought a new belt but have no idea how to put it on? Can you help me?
Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. I am not sure how old your Hoover is but the old style the belt would change from the bottom and you would have to remove the bottom plate, lift out the brushroll and slide the belt onto the center of the brushroll, then look for the belt guide stamped right on the bottom of the vacuum and it will show you how to twist the belt in order for the belt to work, if the belt is on right you will have suction, if the belt is on wrong it will be blowing instead of having suction. If it is newer – you will have to remove the bottom plate or the top cover depending on the age of the vacuum and the belt will be on one side and the procedure is still the same – lift out the brushroll, slide the belt onto the brush, re-insert the brushroll into it’s position, then take a screwdriver or what I call a belt puller and stretch the belt onto the belt pulley then track / roll the belt and it will run straight and true. So, if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions. http://www.hoover.comTelephone Contact our Customer Service Department at 1.330.499.9499 Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. EST Thanks,Don – The Vac Man Go Ahead.Use Us.
Generic problem for all Vacuums How do you take apart? How do you take apart a Hoover brush n wash to replace the belt? I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. On a Hoover brushroll there are 2 types, wood and metal, and the metal can be washed with water and the wood should only be wiped off, knowing the name brand of the vacuum most of the vacuums the belt change is done by removing the bottom plate and exposing the belt, 1st hook the new belt around the brushroll and then use a screwdriver or similar with a bent hook on the end and then pull or hook the belt on to the motor pulley and then track the belt to make sure the belt stays on, then re-install the bottom plate and turn the vacuum on to test to see id the belt was installed correctly. The other is to look for 2 or 4 screws on the bottom and then remove the top cover and follow the instruction listed above without the bottom plate. A belt change should be done every 4 to 6 months on regular basics and to keep the belts in the refrigerator to keep them fresh. http://www.hoover.comTelephone Contact our Customer Service Department at 1.330.499.9499 Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. EST
Generic problem for all Vacuums I have a Hoover Fold Away, U5175-900 I have a Hoover Fold Away, U5175-900. Have had it for 4 months and from the get go; it has been extremely noisy especially with the attachments. Have a warranty but thought it might be a minor item I could fix. I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. I would advise that you take it to a authorized vacuum dealer as to he would be able to diagnose the problem better than I, you typically have a one year factory warranty with the Hoover Co and if there is a brushroll / belt problem or motor than it would be covered under the factory warranty other than the belt is NOT covered, it could be something that has not been tightened down or missing some type of gasket or a bad bearing or bushing. If you have problems contact the Hoover Co for a dealer nearest you, or look in the yellow pages for a vacuum dealer nearest you. http://www.hoover.comTelephone Contact our Customer Service Department at 1.330.499.9499 Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. EST
