Just got a cayman 3500 series broadband gateway and when I connected it to my computer my PC showed I was not connected to the internet. can you tell me why

There should be four sets of numbers each seperated by a dot. These are the address of your router which will allow you to configure the router as you wish. Follow explanation below.

Broadband router manufacturers generally allow users to setup and configure the router settings through their web browsers. You just have to connect the browser to your computer and enter the default private IP address in the address bar of your browser.
The default IP address is factory set and is usually begins with 192.168. Some of the popular brands as given below use 192.168.1.254 as their default private IP Address.

• Netopia / Cayman Internet gateways
• Billion ADSL routers
• Linksys SRW2024 managed switches
• Westell modems for Bellsouth DSL Internet service in the U.S.

192.168.1.254 Router Password

Alongwith the default Private IP Address, these manufacturers also set a default username and password. Users are allowed to change these default password settings. But in case they forget the changed admin and password details, they can use the hardware reset button to change all the settings to the default settings. In this process the password is also reset to the factory default value

To connect to the Internet, certain hardware and services are needed, which are listed below. Without any one of these items, connection to the Internet is not possible.

• Broadband Internet Service (also known as Internet Service Providers or ISP) - Telephone companies (also known as DSL, which uses a telephone line) and cable TV companies usually offer Internet service.
  
  
• Broadband Modem - Normally, a broadband modem can be rented or purchased from the ISP.
  
  
• Computer with a Network Adapter - This is usually a device located inside the computer.
  
  
• Broadband Router - A router is used to connect all of your computers to the network (but is not needed for a single computer). The router also provides a way to connect to the Internet through the Broadband Modem.
  

if you are using a telephone line yes.

1) try turning off and restarting the modem and router.
2) if you are using a dsl connection check if the modem is in bridge mode with your isp.
if yes then
type click on start->run->cmd and press enter
in the black window type ipconfig
now note the default gateway and type the default gateway in the internet explorer Eg \\192.168.1.1
check if the router is set to connection type as pppoe.
enter your usernaem and password and save the internet light will go on.

if the modem is not in bridge mode then try connecting you pc directly with the modem and check if the internet is working not not. if not contact your isp for settings.
if internet is working fine.
not connect your router to your modem and then your router to your computer.
type click on start->run->cmd and press enter
in the black window type ipconfig
now note the default gateway and type the default gateway in the internet explorer Eg \\192.168.1.1
check if the router is set to optain ip automatiicaly and save changes.

The IP address 192.168.1.254 is the default for certain home broadband routers and broadband modems, including

This address is set by the manufacturer at the factory, but you can change it at any time using the vendor's management software. 192.168.1.254 is a private IPv4 network address. Any device on a local network can be set to use it. As with any IP address, however, only one device on the network should use 192.168.1.254 at a time to avoid address conflicts.

what connection you use? a dial up or broadband acces?
if u use a broadband acces (maybe from office) u need to fill in gateway and preffered dns that your office use.( u can see the number from another computer)
You can find the setting in : control panel--->Networks Connection--->Local Area Network
- Right click on Local Area Network, choose 'Properties' ----> Internet Protocols(TCP/IP)

hi! have you used this other identical 2wire modem before? if this other 2wire modem (is it the same 1701hg?) well you may need to configure the settings first. also 1000 series modems usually have 3 lights on it; power, broadband link, and local network. if these 3 lights are on, you may need to access the modem's user interface. assuming that all lights are green, on your computer directly attached to the 2wire, open up any browser, type in gateway.2wire.net. it will give you the network at a glance page. click on run system setup wizard, type in the system password. on the ppp authentication page, please check if it has your username & password (this is the one that you set up on your internet acct w/ your ISP), the next screen will establish a connection. (please tell me if you've got any error messages...)

connect and install three usb modem
connect xbox to pc with ethernet cable
then start right click my network places and go to properties in network connections right click 3 usb modem then properties then advanced, tick the box allow other network users' then okay
now connect 3 3g device turn on xbox and BINGO !

You need to have a cable going from the modem to the gateway, and then another wire going from the gateway to the computer.
