HPlaserjet 2600n without IP

INSTALLING A NETWORK PRINTER These instructions generally apply to all network printers with built-in network cards (print servers) such as HP LaserJet printers, IBM Infoprint laser printers etc. This example is for a network HP LaserJet printer. To install a HP printer (with built-in Jetdirect print server) as a network printer on a wireless network . You need to do the following -
1. Open the printer\'s menu and enable the Network Card - these print servers use a static IP address therefore, configure the IP address of the network card so it matches the IP range of your network. Eg. If your IP\'s are 192.168.0.xxx then set the network card to a high number say 100. (This is to prevent a conflict with the router issuing the same IP address to a computer on your network). Then set the Subnet Mask IP address to 255.255.255.0 If you have a wireless router then check the IP address range that the router issues to the computers on your network and configure the static IP address in the printer\'s network configuration accordingly.
2. Install the HP printer driver on your computer/s using the LPT printer port.
3. Connect the printer with a LAN cable to the network hub/router.
4. Click on Printers and Faxes - right click on the HP printer and click on Properties.
5. Click on Ports and click on Add Port.
6. In available ports - click on Standard TCP/IP Port and then Configure port.
7. Tick the IP box and type in the IP address of the HP\'s printer IP address.
8. Click OK and tick Enable bi-directional support and then OK
9. Remove the printer cable, then do a test print to see if the printer prints correctly.
Install the HP printer driver on every computer on your network and configure the printer\'s TCP/IP port as previously detailed. Do a test print page to check the printer.
You can now print from any computer on your network.

Slow printing hp laserjet 2320 mfp

I have just come up against this issue my self, 4 x CM2320's installed on 150 PC's. After a lot of head scratching I dug out wire shark and did some network analysing as I thought it was a network issue. Turns out it sort of was, the HP software installs a custom network print port, this print port scans the network to see if the printer has changed its IP address BEFORE it tries to spool...!! The solution is to create a new network port and put the printer on that. Originally it took well over 90 seconds to print a test page, once the port was changed it dropped to 2...!!!! All PC's at this client were win XP so here's how to do it on an XP machine... Please note the printer should be on a static IP address!!!:

Start > Printers And Faxes > Right Click on the CM2320 PCL 6 printer > Properties > Ports >

If you scroll down to find the printer in the ports list you should find it has installed on a port called 'HP Colour LaserJet' or something similar.

Add Port > Select 'HP Standard TCP/IP Port' > New Port > Next > Type in the printers IP address ie 192.168.0.202 (Don't tick always print to this device) > Next > Standard - Dropdown - Hewlett Packard Jetdirect > Next > Finish.

The new port will now be in the ports list, click the tick box next to it > Apply > OK. Now try and print a test page, it should only take a second or two...!!!
