Panasonic RR-830 I recently purchased a Panasonic RR-830. Everything seems to be working okay except when I use earphones the sound only comes out on one side of the earphone and nothing on the other. I have tried three different sets/types of earphones and I'm having this problem with each set. Is there something I need to set or fix on the machine? Surely this isn't how this is supposed to be. Thanks!

The headset you are using is a stereo headset. This unit uses a mono headset. Look at the end of the headset. If there is 2 black rings, it is stereo. You can get a stereo to mono adapter at Radio Shack for about $2.50.

Try running the audio from each video source (NOT the TV, which is an output, not a source) to the HTR digitally so you'll get the best mutichannel sound possible. Then you can turn the TV speakers (assuming it has them) off for hi-end watching.

Most earphone jacks have two functions. One, to provide signal to a set of earphones or headphones. Two, to DISCONNECT the path that would be amplified and sent to loudspeakers. If that particular contact on the jack is bent or broken, when you UNPLUG the male jack, the connection is NOT re-established!

High pitch sqealing noise

This is caused be a bad record switch. As a temporary solution, incert a blank tape, push the record switch, then stop. Repeat about 10 times. This may clean the contacts of the record/Play switch but it will probably need to be replaced.
