I have a 2 year old Mitsubishi WD-73732 - 1080p 73" Medallion Series DLP HDTV - WD73732. When the TV gets warm (within 15-30 minutes) the color gets increasingly distorted and "posterized"...blotches of color, mostly magentas and greens. I replaced the lamp a year ago, but didn't replace the lamp CARTRIDGE, just unscrewed/replaced the bulb itself. The bulb is plenty bright, just the color gets bad. Can you tell me what to do?
This would be the little sensor on the light wheel. Its cheap, you can get them online for around $2. You will need to take the light engine out and remove the color wheel cover and remove the color wheel and then remove the sensor. You will have to desolder the sensor and remove it to replace with the new one.
What is happening is the sensor is overheating and not tracking the color wheel properly there for the colors get messed up. Once you replace the sensor the tv should work like normal. The part is
(Sharp GP2S40 Photointerrupter). It is very difficult to find because they are not made anymore. Most major online part stores do not carry them but I found a lot of them at Wright Hobbies. Good luck.
You need to replace the "light engine". This is very very difficult. You need to take it to a repair shop. But this will be very expensive. Around $1,000.00

I have a Mitsubishi DLP 73'' 1080p. 18 months old. About a week ago I was watching it and it started flikering a little, which turned to flashes, much like camera flashes were in the background of whatever I was watching. This became more frequent and then my TV seemed to loose color, leaving just some very shaded greens etc... The next morning I turned it on and it seemed fine... Then about an hour and a half later it was flashing again, then the color went out. Now it seems thats the routine, Works for about 1.5 hrs then looses color. In searching Ive read about many problems with MITS but never this one.. until this thread. I read in this past post that this can cost about $1000. Is this true? I've heard nothing about this problem in any other thread, blog, or news posts. This last person said it very matter of factly and I was hoping someone else might be able to confirm this of offer another solution or idea. $1000 is rediculous.
