Specifically, push down on the section that reads '3.2 MEGA PIXALS'; if that doesn't work, take the 6 screws off thet back and push the flash module back in place. It's the little yellowish clear fresnel lens next to the camera lens. It will snap back into place. It's mis-aligned like a fat kid on a teeter totter.

This is AWESOME advice! I took this to a Verizon dealer before and they did a complete software upgrade and it didnt fix it.
So I looked online and found this.

First I took off my battery and push my thumb on the lens and my other hand on the entire screen so I wont damage the screen. Then I tried on the the metal plate. I turned it on and it still had the problem. I then stopped the camera but left the phone on. Then I pressed the metal plate even harder with the screen face down on a flat table, and it I tried the camera again and it worked.

I think this common problem is from drops and vibrations, it loosens the litttle spring connections that keeps the electrical connections in contact.

Awesome again. Thanks

It's Feb.11th, 2010...I had this problem present itself to me yesterday out of the blue when I tried to use the camera to take a picture of the blizzard we had and it said "CAMERA START ERROR." This is the first time I have ever had this error message. I took the battery off, put it back in, but no success...after reading Solution #6 and pressing down on the 3.2 Megapixels part near the flash, it magically worked! Thank you!!

Wow, internet is so cool isn't it? I went to Verizon with this problem and the tech said I need a new phone. Yeah right.......and of course a new two year agreement .......NOT, I said in a pissed off tone as I walked out the store. Came hone and Googled my problem. Found this sight. Read the reviews. Tried it. SHASAM!!! No more camera start error. F*^*^ing Verizon. Ya think the idiots would just do the saem thing I did and Google the problem. Then they could look they they know something. Thanks to the person that found this solution.

I had the same problem, camera start error. Did a soft reset and all seemed fine. Called Verizon support to see if this would indeed fix it and was told to take it to a Verizon store to have it checked out just to make sure. Took it and it needed the camera software upgraded. Took about 45 minutes, so I left the phone and went shopping. Do this before your warranty expires.

I never heard of such a ridicules think as taking the battery out and pressing on the lens and flash. It took me two tries but it really worked. My family thinks I'm nuts but there must be a fault with the design that can cause movement within the mechanism. But I'll be damn. Thank you.

Pushing on the 3.2MP lens area wasn't working for me, must have tried 10 times. Finally placed the phone flat on the table and pushed *very* hard with a pen (not really caring if I damaged this two-year-old phone that I plan on replacing imminently anyway), and it actually worked. Was beginning to think this was an elaborate hoax ... sorry for thinking that. ;-) Thank you to the OP for posting this fix.

AWSOME.. a very wonderful solution. I did it twice to actually get it fixed. You'll have to push it really hard (the place where it says 3.2 mega pixels) and you'll actually feel it going back in. Thanks again for the solution

Randmack123, dude you are amazing i just fixed my phone and since i had it my camera has never worked. Do like he said, take the back off and your battery get like a end of a pen or something on the flat spot, use that to push down on around your lens and flash, stupid *** verizon needs to learn how to make there phones better and stop ******** people. But i did it like 4 time and it really worked!!!

  • garga0 Jun 15, 2011

Yes indeed, you need to press the flash. Under flash there is a connector shich needs to be properly seated. While pressing it came out and I noticed that. I then seated it with care. But my lens became dirty in all this. and now a git gray/muddy pictures I get.
W/o your particular explanation, it was't working for me.

This is the second phone I've had this problem with, and it's been sooo long for me without a camera that I was really skeptical. However, this solution miraculously works. You have to push on the 3.2 megapixel part and the flash, not the lens. I tried it first with the lens because i saw something about that, but it doesn't work. Push the top part with the battery out, replace the battery, turn it on and voila! It's been months and months since my camera worked, and now it does again. Thanks so muchh!

My LG Dare camera wont work. it says camera start error. what do i do?

Take the back cover off and there are 2 connections right at the flash area.. one is a tiny circuit board like piece and the other is even smaller underneath it. both are mini plugs that sometimes come loose. press them into place and youre good to go. not sure if tape will work though as it is so small. this fixed my daughter camera.

My LG Dare doesnt load the camera screen. I only get a black screen saying "camera start error"...What can i do to fix it??????

I just read another person's idea for fixing it and I tried it and IT TOTALLY WORKED!!!! What you do is take out the battery then press on the camera lens, specifically where the 3.2mpx words are. it seems to "push" the lens back into place. I did it and it's fixed! i'm amazed!!!

Camera start error on lg dare

This is a software fault with the phone - restore your phone back to factory setting OR do a master reset on the phone (all data will be erased) and that might troubleshoot the issue otherwise take your phone back to Verizon and they will either fix the phone or replace it with another one.
