I have an HP Pavilion with WDC WD10 EADS-65M2B1 SCSI Disk Device installed. The operating system for this device is Windows 7 Professional. I want to install a 2nd hard drive, the 80GB Samsung SP8004H SpinPoint with Windows XP but the connectors appear different. The Samsung HD used a ribbon like connector in the old CPU; I think the new CPU has SATA connectors. There is a four pronged female connector on the Samsung and an available four pronged male connector on the connectors in the new CPU. Can I use this connection; do I need some kind of adapter, or will this even work at all? Thank you.

SATA drives are the latest hard drives available nowadays. You could try going online and checking other sites that could still have an IDE hard available for sale.
SMART is used to measure your HDD health. It warns you of impending failure of your hard drive. If it goes down, it's a good idea to backup important stuff and prepare to replace the HDD.
S.M.A.R.T is an acronym for Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology systems (SMART) and it's usually built in to most modern ATA and SCSI hard disks.
