Reads LO all the time. Hasn't worked since I changed the batteries. Cannot see any type of reset button so presume it automatically does that when you change the batteries. Have used only the correct number batteries. Haven't got the manual for it and don't know who to get into contact with to get it fixed. Have a child with kidney problems so need to keep on the ball with her temp so this is of great urgency. Many thanks

From the manual of the thermometer:
This thermometer is shipped with the Fahrenheit temperature scale activated. If you wish to switch to Celsius (°C), proceed as follows:
• Turn on the thermometer. (If it is already turned on, make sure it is not in memory mode.)
• Press the /mem button and keep it pressed. Then press and release the activation button to switch over to the «change temperature scale» mode.
• By pressing the activation button again, the Celsius scale is activated, «°C» is displayed on the LCD. Each further pressing of the activation button toggles the scale between °C and °F.
If this isn't the right manual, go to: http://braun.kaz.com/kaz/service and select your country from there.

To open model 8985 you will first need to gently pry off the 'cap' on the bottom that surrounds the hole where the cord plugs in. Once removed the side grips will pull off revealing 4 screws. Remove screws to take off back cover and access insides. Inner parts simply lift out.
