Light does not come on when I open/close door, not the bulb

Garage door works but the light does not come on and it's not the bulb. Is there a switch that I can check.

Garage Door goes up and down but no lights. When I manually push the switch you can hear the relay engage but the "NEW" lightbulbs do no work.

I have the same problem. It worked for a while, now is not working at all. It's not the bulb. When it 1st started I would go and tighten the bulb, now it is not working at all.

One bulb works, the other doesn't. They both used to work. Changed both. Same problem...?

Good Morning:

I also substituted Floescent Bulbs for the standard bulbs. The bulbs would not light up although the relay was working. It seemed that the Florescent bulbs had a somewhat shorter neck. What I did was unplug the drive system from the outlet and then bend the metal connector in the socket so that it would come out further towards the opening of the socket. I then repluged the drive. The Floercent bulbs now have contact and are working perfectly. Simple problem with a simple solution.

Unplug the opener and take a small screwdriver and pry the middle contact up a little. Should fix it for you.

Look inside the lampholders and make sure the contacts/tabs are pulled up enough to contact with the bulb base in the two locations....

I found the problem with mine is the socket is burn away it needs a new socket. I am looking right now for one I don't think they sell them so I just may put up a simple light socket on the ceiling and connect it to the opener and forget it. I hope this helps

I had exactly same problem, I found "my" solution. I was replacing normal light bulb (40W) with a florescent light bulb. The base of florescent light bulb has different shape. Although it was plugged in it was not fitting well and I suspected it did not make a good contact. So used normal 40W light bulb and that did it. Hope this helps you and others.

I did the same. And it worked after I replaced with a normal 60W bulb. I was first trying with the florescent bulb and it didn't work. Infact the indicator light was blinking thrice.
Now the indicator is not blinking after I put in the normal bulb. I guess the issue is with the contact of the bulb holder.

To answer your question the opener is in vacation mode. Press and hold for 3 seconds the button on your wall control with the lock icon. The green light will stop flashing and you will be back in business.

SOURCE: My garage door opener won't close the garage door.

Most likely your door sensors have been bumped and are not aligned properly. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not blinking.

SOURCE: I have a Craftsman 139.18856 Garage Door Opener.

There are a couple different light features depending on the model opener. There is one where you can change the duration the light stays on and another model has a motion detector that turns the light on. Another has a feature where if you walk in through an open garage door it automatically turns the light on. Your model number is recognized by Sears so I can't really tell what you have. Double check the model number.

Sears garage door opener wall switch works properly (I do NOT have to hold button in to close door), remotes don't work. Sensors are solid green and door reverses when beam is broken when activate

If you recently changed the light bulb in the unit, try changing it back to a basic clear bulb. I just had the same problem, and after research, found that changing bulb to a new type LED bulb messed up the remotes. A good test, is to try the remotes when the garage door light is "OFF". My remotes worked as long as the light was "OFF". I changed the bulb back to basic bulb, and everything works fine!!

It could be the garage door motor that is acting up. Try closing it with the button in the garage. If that's not the case, you may need a different garage door opener.

I have a Craftsman Model # 139.53664SRT that has worked great until recently. When I try to close the garage door by keypad or with remote, it will not allow me to do so unless I turn the light out once...

The first thing I would do is remove the light bulb from the socket and try the opener. I have a feeling the bulb itself is bad or there is some arcing in the socket. Try unplugging the opener and prying out on the center connector of the socket.

Security light will not work

You must have a three function wall switch. This means in addition to a button that opens and closes the door there are two other buttons on the same wall switch. One is marked LIGHT and the other is marked LOCK.

To have your lights come on automatically when you walk into an open garage you must START with the lights ON. To turn the feature on, turn the lights on manually with the wall switch, then press and hold the LIGHT button for about 10 seconds until the motor unit light bulbs flash. Now, if the light bulbs are on, manually turn them out and then walk out through the open door. The light bulbs should come on.

To disable this feature, start with the light bulbs OFF and everything else is the same.

Garage door light...

Some of the newer light bulbs do not work well. Unplug the unit and look in the actual socket. There is a copper lead, pull it up a little and try it. If not then you can replace the sockets themselves. Although it may be the logic board too. Make sure and get a surge protector on this nit 900 joules or higher. Thanks BB

Main light on will not come on when door is opened/closed

For some reason, the bulbs I tested that worked somehow didn't work correctly when inserted into the door opener. We opened another set of bulbs we purchased and what do you know, the light now works. I don't fully understand as the other bulbs did work just not in the garage door opener.
