The WMP Bundled MP3 codec is the
L3CODECA.ACM encoder "Fraunhofer Advanced MPEG" codec has limitations on available bit-rates andkeeps the sampling rate at below 22,050Khz it is licensed by Microsoft and ACM (Audio Compression Manager) is also by Microsoft
To improve the bitrates and sample rates available to you install and activate the Professional Fraunhofer ACM codec this is called
L3CODECP.ACM, use the included TWEAK to remove the Advanced version and enable the Professional version after you have installed it.
The another version of the Fraunhofer MP3 codec is
L3CODECX.ACM, and is a decode version ONLY and can be seen in the drivers.desc in the registry this can't be used as an ACM for re-encoding in VirtualDub and other such programs. This is also included in the zip file

If you want to remove the MP3 decoder only
L3CODECX.ACM I suggest that you use
Codec Sniper be carefull only DELETE press once keep your sound ON if it says HEADSHOT it has been removed....
Check with
Sherlock Detective to see if the Codec has been removed sucessfully this is also the best way to view all your Audio and Video codecs it will give you version number and manufacture details

- l3codeca.acm v1.9.0.305 (Advanced): Encodes up to 56Kbps
- l3codecp.acm v3.4.0.0 (Professional): Encodes up to 320Kbps. (included in WMP10+11)
- l3codecp.acm (so-called "Radium" version): Encodes up to 320Kbps

L3CODECP.ACM v3.4.0.0 that has unlimited encoding use this little tip its perfectly legal to do this by the way.
Download the
wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe it may require Windows Genuine Activation then save it to the root folder then extact it the Professional Version of the Codec
L3CODECP.ACM, will be included in the wmp11.exe extract this and then just copy it to the system32 folder use
