I have a 1999 Bonneville. the car was running and i turned it off and now it will not start back up. the interrior and exterrior lights work but the dash will not light up at all. also there is a sing

piece of black tape to cover the light :) and drive the car till its done and if the light is not affecting anything then don't worry about it

alternator may be bad would cause dimming of lights and cause car to not start.

You have a short circuit to ground in one of your lighting circuits. If there is any physical damage to the vehicle (collision) near any of the exterrior lights, I would look at the wiring harnesses there first. I have seen many "butcher jobs" resulting in severe damage done by people poking around in the wiring harnesses without knowing what they are doing. This is a good way to give your vehicle an early retirement. I would recommend having the problem diagnosed by a certified technician that does automotive electrical service.

You probably have a bad wire or a loose wire in that harness. Check them visually and check the current of the wires with a voltage reader.

it is usually on the end of the light it normally has three positions, one to turn it on manually, an off position & one to come on when a door is opened.....hope this helps.....cheers

You are correct,now to find out what circuit is blowing the fuse.If the car was in a accident check that area first.Chances are its interrior or running lights.lets start with interrior lights,install new fuse turn on interrior lights on for 1/2 hour.if fuse blows remove interrior lamp lenses and look for one of the hot wires to be shorted out on the body.To check the tail lights turn off the interrior lights and turn on the running lights.If fuse blows start with any damaged areas,check the trunk area for damage to the wire harness,if you have a trailer hitch chcek the trailer harness for damage.theres no easy fix here,hope I have been some help.Thanks for using FixYa......Ray

having the same problem , car just stops running, & starts right back up on my 99 bonneville se.

evan better than this car for fuel economy and thats the citreon C3 ,only problem is its a french car ,and they wouldnt let the b52 bombers fly through french air space to bomb iraq ,remember al bundy?? But its still a good car ,a diesel manual model will do 60mpg average or a peugeot ,it has the same mechanics but its built in the UK .

are your dasboard lights at full brightness?Turn your headlight switch(it may be on the interior light detent).BTW I drive a '97 Bonneville SE and one great thing about these cars is that if you leave a light on it will shut off after about 5 minutes so it won't drain your battery overnight.
