Sony bravia tv connected to yamaha receiver htr6230 - sound was fine but now no sound - only if receiver is set to tuner - can hear radiostations - suggestions?

Solved problem with Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver. My daughter had inadvertently changed the program to "Direct Stereo" mode which allows sources to bypass the decoders and DSP processors so you can listen to 2-Channel PCM and Analog sources. Nothing to decode digital audio in this setting!

be more specific!...how is the tv hooked up? hdmi, component, straight to the tv, or into the amp then tv?....what audio out? optical, digital? also what are you trying to view? local programming? cable/sat? dvd? your best bet is to ignore video on the amp and go straight to tv. can't help u more until i have more specifics.

I also had this problem. you need to call Yamaha Tech Support (in your country) and explain to the consultant that you need to set up your receiver to decode the Audio from the HDMI input (so it will play the sound from the HDMI cable). Yamaha Australia said that this function is not described in the book and also said its a stupid mistake on Yamaha's Manual. So just give them a call and they will fix it for you. It WORKED for me :D
