Hi zapchenk,

First of all, thank you for posting your question here at Fixya.com.

The most common caused of "No color" fault when viewing movies through DVD player are :
1. Wrong TV/DVD format - If your TV is a NTSC system format and not knowingly your DVD player is set to PAL/Secam system format, then there's no color generated to your TV due to incorrect video frequency signal coming from the DVD player.
Solution : You have to sync/match the system format of the TV and DVD player. Check first the system format of the DVD player through the menu. Try to change it from PAL/Secam to NTSC.
2. Wrong hooked up - Since the problem is in video, you have to check the video hooked to your TV and DVD player. HDMI jack is the best option to avoid wrong hooked up because it come with Audio and Video in just one cable. If you are using one RCA cable to connect the video, make sure that it is hooked up to Video in of the TV and Video out of the DVD player, it is usually color yellow RCA jack. If you are using the component video hooked up, you must have 3 RCA cable for video alone. It is color coded as green(Y), blue(Pb/Cb), and red(Pr/Cr) RCA jack.

My advice is to check first the system format and then the video hooked up.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Good luck and take care!

Kind Regards,
Jdvillanueva

I don't know how to successfully connect a JVC AV-27220 (a television) to HR-XVC29SU (a DVD player). I have a set of blue/red/green cables, but the colors don't match the markings on the devices....

The standard colors are : White, Yellow and Red. If you match the Red of the TV, the White of the TV and the Yellow of the TV to the same colors on the DVD player, then all should work properly. It does not matter what color the cable is, match color for color on the devices. Hope this helps and good luck from a teacher to another teacher.

How to install a video machine if I don't have the tv remote?

I'm assuming by "video machine" you mean some kind of DVD player or Blu-ray player or something of the like. I will explain how to install a DVD player. There are two major cables: one sends the video to the TV and the other sends power to the DVD player. The power cord plugs into the wall with the other end attached to the DVD player. The video cable plugs into the TV. If you have an HD television, the video cable will have a male HDMI piece that plugs into the TV while the other end of the cable plugs into the DVD player. If you don't have an HDTV, then you will use an RCA cable which has three prongs: Yellow, White, and Red. These three colored male prongs plugs into the corresponding color coded holes in the TV. The other end goes into the DVD player. When you have everything plugged in correctly and the DVD player is on, all you have to do now is change the TV input. You will need the TV remote that came with your TV, or a universal remote that has been configured to work with your TV. Find a button on your remote that reads "Source" or "Input". This will cycle through the sources and inputs of your TV including AUX, VIDEO1, VIDEO2, etc. Keep going until you are on the correct input to see the DVD player menu. Good luck!

Screen is Perfect just Black and White only...No Color

well a dvd player is only going to playback the media it is reading. So if the dvd is a reproduction of a b/w western then b/w is correct but if you play a dvd from the present then it should be in color unless the tv it is connected to is faulty. Try connecting to another tv to see if problem repeats on another tv

Will not work

Hi, you'll want the 3 colored RCA cable to hook this up to an older TV.  Yellow is for Video Out on player and Video In on TV.  Then, on player, correspond the red and white to their holes for Audio Out, and match them with Audio In on your TV.  You may have 2 spots on your TV that are labeled Audio In.  Try them both - the one that works should very close to you Video In line.
Hope that helps!
