SOURCE: Just bought a cruz reader

Before you can communicate with your computer you must run CruzSync from the desktop. There are some driver files that must be sent from cruz to point the way to the reader. After you do this it should connect every time. Some time you will have to pull the USB out and put it back end, especially if the reader or the computer has just woke up from a sleep or hibernation mode. ZumoDrive is the account you must set up when you click or press on CruzSync to make all of this happen. Hope this helps

SOURCE: How do you restor you

The easiest way to restore the Cruz Reader to factory defaults is to update to the newest firmware which can be downloaded from here. The instructions for doing the upgrade are also explained on the link above.

This will revert everything back to original condition leaving any information on the internal and external memory cards intact. If you are looking to clear those as well you can do so by formatting the cards by going to Settings->Storage (might say SD card)->Unmount->Format. You can also take the cards out and put them in your computer and use the computer to format them.

The process is pretty of upgrading the firmware is pretty simple even though it might be intimidating. Let me know if you have any more questions

Hope this helps

SOURCE: My Android Cruz Reader R101

This sounds similar to something that happened when I tried rooting my android phone. If it's the same thing, that means you will need to go to recovery mode and install an update.zip package that you can find somewhere online for it. It's because the code for what's supposed to happen after that screen is overwritten and it doesn't know where to go.

SOURCE: if i try to root the cruz ereader r101 and it

Yes. Flashing the ROM does the same thing as updating your firmware. You are simply updating your firmware to one that isn't the original. All you do is load up the file from the velocity website onto your SD card and flash and you will be back at the standard ROM.
I suggest Macho ROM or JGM if you want the android market. Both run overclocked if you so choose which is much faster. JGM also has a vanilla rom (and there is and improved vanilla rom) which gives the tablet bare-bones applications if you want it to be just a reader. I would follow the method for flashing jgm. It lays out how to set up app2sd and all that.
4shared.com allows you to download apps that are not found in the market or whatever after you have rooted. Simply search the name of the app and put .apk at the end. Be careful as you can get malware from this. This method breaks copyright laws as all apps on it are offered for free and I only suggest it to download apps that are free on the market...

PROBLEM WITH TABLET CRUZ READER R101

To update the firmware you can follow the directions here http://www.ehow.com/how_7890482_update-cruz-reader-firmware.html

I used a similar method when I had my Cruz Reader R101. This process is called "side-loading"
You will have to download a file to your computer (not your tablet), remove the SD media card from your cruz, then transfer the downloaded file from your computer to it, then replace the SD card to your cruz.

Also you can download the user manual here http://www.retrevo.com/support/Velocity-R101-Tablets-manual/id/23894dj696/t/2/ which shows how to remove the card, and this is a great reference to keep on your reader. For example, page 14 shows how to transfer files to and from your reader. Good luck!

CANT TURN ON WIFI

I'm sure you're doing this but go to settings and try turning the check mark so that it shows green. If that doesn't work re-start (always the first step in troubleshooting) and try again.
Now on to the real stuff. If you feel up to it (and you'd like to mess around with computer stuff/ would like to root your device which allows you to do a lot) you should look into slatedroid dot com and then look for adb and usb debugging for the cruz tablet. There is a thorough thread on r101/r102 that goes through everything. Through that you can manually adjust things from your computer. You should be able to troubleshoot and fix wifi problems manually.
If you don't want to do that you can back up your stuff (if you have stuff on it) and reflash the firm ware. To do that go to the cruz website download the firmware (from support) and load it on to the sd. It provides directions. You'd be doing the same thing as if you were to update your firmware. Then simply restore your info and you should have be starting from scratch in terms of wireless settings and any bugs that may have come up.
good luck

Can't remember password pattern. The suggestion didn't work.

Normally, with Android devices, if you enter the wrong pattern five times in a row, the device will give you an option to enter your Google account information (e-mail address and password). Once you have done this, it will let you reset your security pattern.
If this doesn't work, the next best thing to try would be a firmware update. The firmware update process will wipe the root of the device (but leave your SD card and books intact), basically resetting it to factory settings, before you even set a security pattern.
Should this fail to work, contact Velocity Micro Support by calling 1-800-296-4312 or visiting their Support website.

I bought a Velocity Cruz R103 for Christmas . I charged it all night and went to read a book and it died.

There is an update to the firmware for this device available on Velocity's www.cruzreader.com website. Perhaps that would help. Otherwise, I would advise a return for exchange at the place of purchase, while you can. This behavior is not expected, and you may have a faulty device. For the technically-minded, there is plenty of information available on Slatedroid, and this device can be "rooted" for use as a general-purpose Android tablet. Pretty slick.
