Black strip on front of wall between frig and freezer really hot
The frig and freezer is working fine but the black panel/strip on the wall between the frig and freezer what the doors close on is really hot to the touch. Is that normal?
Re: Black strip on front of wall between frig and freezer...
Not supposed to be hot to touch, try pulling out refrig and vaccuming the coils, your probably FULL of dust and debris, also remove the kickplate from front and clean under there as well

check with dealer or company regarding frig in back panel.side always become hot due to inbuilt condenser.place in such a way that front and both the side facing to open area.do not face to wall either of the side.back panel towards the wall will do
Hi: Those areas are designed to be warm to keep moisture from forming there(Moulion coil). When they get hot it means the fridge is over working. The condenser coils remove the heat from the fridge. When clogged the heat will leave anywhere it can. The moulion coil is the strip you described, and will overheat when the condenser coils wont disperse the heat. Most likely the coils need a good cleaning, on the bottom of the ref. Use a coil brush and a vacuum. Or even an air compressor to blow the dust and hair out; plan on dusting the house too. Pull the grill off the front and clean them. If real bad pull the panel of the lower back and clean it out too. Since you work in detroit the dust and hair on the coils would be like putting a blanket over your radiator. Parts would heat up. I hope it's just the coils. If a compressor is failing you can get the same symptoms. I hope it is the latter for you, as I'm in your boat also. I hope this helps, Jeff
Your heating element has failed and needs to be replaced, the heating element keeps your coils from icing up and in return when then go bad cause this problem.
First take the grill off at the bottom under the doors look at the grate under the frig That is your condenser it will probably be covered in dust clean it off the see if you can fill air blowing under the frig there is a fan under there that keeps that coil cool and it runs around the door to keep condensation from build around the doors if no air is blowing take the back panel behind the Frig and there should be a fan running if the compressor is running this will also cause the compressor to over heat and will not cool as well but it might just need to be cleaned Good luck
first, sears doesnt make any of their own appliances, but they do sell them, so you can be upset, but it is fixable. what is happening is the freezer fan is not running causing no cold air to circulate. the reason the door strip feels hot is it has a heater to prevent condensation and when the unit is cooling properly it will feel normal temps. check to see if you can hear the fan running in the freezer, if it is then you may have a defrost problem, but most likely you have a bad fan motor. remove the rear panel in the freezer and check the fan to see if it is turning. if not replace the motor.
the water is coming from the freezer when is defrosts. the drain line is in the back wall of the freezer and may be clogged up with ice. clean out the freezer and pour some hot water in the very back of the freezer, this will hopefully unclog the drain. if not, then you have to take the back wall out of the freezer to get directly to the drain line. there should just be a couple screws holding it; it is just an aluminum or plastic panel.
Is your fan blowing in the freezer?
Frost on the back wall of the freezer usually indicates a defrost problem... defrost themostate, heaters, take back panel off and check evap for frost build up and if your fan in working.
