The blue screen seems to happen when you change the batteries (it's what happened to us). The blue screen indicates that there's a software problem, like when you boot up your computer and for some reason it freezes up. That software needs to be reinstalled. You'll lose anything that was saved on the v.reader, but at least you'll get it working again.

vtech could have made it a very simple problem to solve just by adding in their customer support: Blue Screen? follow these steps. But they don't, so here's how:

You'll need an SD card with at least 64mo of free space. If you want to use the one from your camera, transfert all of your pictures to the computer. Everything on the SD card will be erased.

Download the Recovery software from either link below (you can find both on the vtech website, but it took me a while to get there)

For the US version
http://contentcdn.vtechda.com/vtechkidsDownload/US/VReader/Tool/Recover/US-engRecoverCardTool.exe

For the Canadian english version
http://contentcdn.vtechda.com/vtechkidsDownload/CA-eng/VReader/Tool/Recover/CA-engRecoverCardTool.exe

This is the link to the website itself:
http://www.vtechkids.com/download/ca/en

Run the program and follow the instructions (at least those are clear and easy to follow). Mine worked fine after that. And since there's no reset button on the v.reader, this is the only way to erase the 100+ drawings that your child saved.

Hope that helps

This sounds like a corrupt operating system. The problem could be any number of things. Failing hard drive, Virus, bad ram. You could try to repair the OS with the Operating system disc and use the repair mode that is available.

The projector is stuck on the blue screen. It will let me change the input but it will still stay on the blue screen even though everything else is on and working.

Hello!
"blue screen" means: picture is all blue, but there is a signal coming through? Do you see channel logo? Menu? If so, blue CRT or CRT board is at fault. Depends on the age of the set. If set is fairly new, then try to bang on the neck of blue tube with rubber screwdriver hands. Very gentle! While set is working. If you see the retrace lines and TV shuts down then, CRT is at fault. If not, try to play with blue "screen" control of "focus block". Black plastic module with bunch of thick wires attachad to that. Has 3 "focus" and 3 "screen" controls. For each of the tubes. In many cases you'll be able to adjust "blue" down to normal. Usually, those controls are smeared with white paint and hard to turn by hand. Loosen those with little pliers, then adjust manually or via small "phillips" screwdriver. If nothing helps: CRT board is at fault and must be replaced or repaired. In this case you won't see any characters on blue CRT, just solid "blue".
good luck,
Alex.

Hi, maybe you can take a try of this rescue program called PowerSuite Golden. I came across similar blue screen situaiton on my HP laptop (win 7) and it helped me get rid of it and rescued my data back. It is an awesome toolkit that includes a boot CD and several other data rescue tools that help get your PC going even if Windows won't start or computer won't boot up at all. Hope it helps in your situation too. Regards
