I received a national geographics tumbler for Christmas when I tried to use it the lid comes loose and spills water and stuff all over.

-Possibly too cheap and make form out side of USA.
Don't use it. Every time you use it. It'll do the same thing.
Or you can try couple more times to see what it'll do.

Good luck

The rock tumbler will not turn on, the light on the day settings just blinks off and on.

the clear cover on top has a clasp at the BACK and a clasp with two clear pegs on either side of the clasp on the FRONT.. more than likely your two clear pegs are not closing the safety interlock, make sure you have the lid with pegs to the front and hold down while pushing the on button .. the lights blink to tell you the lid safety interlock is not secured.

We have a rock tumbler and have lost the instructions. How long are we to tumble each stage? I assume that the sand goes inside the tumbler with the rocks. We need some directions.

Fill the barrel most of the way with stones, add coarse grit, add enough water to just cover the stones and then clean where the lid seals carefully. Seal it up and run it for a week, dump everything into a colander and rinse. Don't run that mud down your drain because it will plug it mightily, run it outside.

Do the same process with the fine grit, run it for another week and rinse and admire.

Where can i find a set of instructions for our edu science rock tumbler.

I used to have exactly that same rock tumbler. I have a bunch of polished rocks out in my garden that the kids and I made with that thing.

I don't have the instructions, but there are some perfectly great generic instructions on the geology.com web site: http://geology.com/rock-tumbler/rock-tumbler-instructions.shtml

I used these directions with great success.

We lost the creatology rock tumbler instruction manual and cant do anything with out it

Hi, We got the same tumbler this Christmas. You might be able to get an manual from [email protected]
To get started though, Step 1 takes 2-4 days, step 2 4-7 days, step 3 2hrs, step 4 2 hrs.
To start day 1
1) rinse stones with water and fill barrel with no more than 8 oz of stones
2) Add step 1 course Grinding Powder
3) Add enough water to cover stones
4) tighten (snugly) cap on barrel to prevent leaking
5) Be sure barrel is clean & dry. Fit barrel into tumbler (fits correctly only in 1 direction). Cover barrel with safety dome.
6) Attach DC plug to tumbler and plug in.
7) Push on/off button
8) Push # of days button timer.

Extras
They suggest using a lubricant on the inside rim of lid to help removal.
Once you start the tumbling do not turn it off and leave it off - It will harden like cement inside the barrel.
It is loud so place it on a towel to help reduce noise and put it where it won't bother anyone.

Rolling Stones Rock Tumbler - no rubber ''O'' ring

Nothing high tech here. Try it without the o-ring. If the water does not start to leak out in the first 3 to 5 minutes of tumbling you will be ok. Stop it every day to check the water level.

Set the whole thing on a cookie sheet in case it does leak when you are not watching - you don't want a bunch of rock dust and polishing grit on your table or floor in the morning.

You will not damage anything by trying it without the o-ring.

My tumbler won't turn. Tried unloading some rocks but still having a problem.

I had the same problem, The problem is that the tumbler lid is to smooth and there is no grip from the spinning wheel. I solved this problem by taking a kitchen steak knife and roughing up the edge of the tumbler where it rides on the spinning wheel. Works great now. Best of luck
