Before you do that, try opening the tableet and see if there's any loose wires, which can happen when it's dropped or something. Mine did the same while on a trip overseas, all my books lost :( my husband opened it and reconnected a wire, worked perfect ever since. You can look up how to open one on youtube, it's quite easy.

It sounds like your screen is damaged or faulty and will need to be replaced.
