Hi.

If there is power then the door switch is probably broken. first make sure that there is power to the machine. The door switch is tested with power off, accessing switch contacts and reading Ohms with a multimeter. When door is closed the switch must have continuity, reading zero or few Ohms. With door open the switch contacts read infinity (circuit open).

If the door switch is OK, test power cord, main switch, wiring harness, motor and timer.

    I know.

If you repair appliances you know how troubleshooting works. You test things in order.

After Ohming door switch you check VAC at the on off switch, have a look at the thermal fuse if this is in line with the motor (check continuity), check volts at timer etc. I expected a clarification request. I got a bad feedback even if I did not say anything wrong...happens.
Unfortunately you have passed the question to another expert. Someone else will help you.

    Good luck and Goodbye.

Hi

I believe that everything else is fine rather it is the thermal fuse that is located inside the rear panel to the exhaust duct that is bad and should be replaced. If you want you can test this fuse for continuity and if it is bad then it should be replaced, as it cannot be reset. If the fuse is fine then it can be due to the control board that is bad and should be replaced. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

Check to see if the switch on the door jamb operates correctly. It works just like a wall light switch in your home. With an ohm meter you can check it or just jump the two switch wires together and see if it starts up. You must be careful if testing this way

You can remove the panel and check for fault in the connectors and the line to the display, use a hair dryer to warm and dispel any moisture on the board and panel. If there is no result then the panel has to be replaced.

After fitting a new time to a hotpoint CDT00

Sometimes even one connection can make the circuit non functionable and so it can be due to a wrong connection. I request that you check once again and logically check the lines to go in order to start the cycle, INLET, cut off from the water level sensor, Start motor, stop and drain, spin and rinse, fill water and then for final dry and drain pump.
Check for all leads to be correct, check if the stepper motor works in circuit to move forward after the main power is switched.

How do you take the back off a Hotpoint Ctd85 tumble dryer . I have taken all the screws out and the top of the machine and the two bottom corners are still holding the back on tight. I cant see anything...

most dryers you cant remove the back, you remove the front face then the top, then drum and this is how you get into the rear dryer area

Won't run

If "won't run" meaning; "does not tumble/spin" this can be a couple things;

1. Defective Drive Belt (Likely): Broken or jammed (not properly attached to motor/pulley). Nothing will happen when pressing start; unit will not heat or rotate/tumble. "Normal ware and tear"

2. Defective Door Switch (Very likely) - Very common due to constant "slamming" of door. The door switch enables power to be passed through-out machine when door closes for safety purposes. Switch located at door area and can be tested for continuity. "Nothing will happen when pressing start; unit will not heat or tumble/turn". * Fairly easy to replace; two mounting screws.

3. Defective/Jammed Motor (Rare, but possible): You may hear a "humming noise" and burning smell. Also, excessive lint in blower housing may jam the motor from rotating. "Does not come on; does not tumble/turn"

Remember to disconnect power from unit before servicing.

My hotpoint vtd20 tumble dryer will not start. I was using it then when I put a second load in and pressed start - nothing happened. The power light is on but no tumbling!

If you can hear the motor running but no tumble action then belt has come off.
Make sure the door is shut properly..
If it gets hot at the back, then you are difinately getting power to everything.
If you can hear a slight buzzing noise, then the motor is failing to start, probably due to a faulty start capacitor.
