Strange. Heaters usually shut down with the spinning drum when door is open. If you check the schematic for unit you can check to see if in fact this is correct operation. Attached site usually has schematics for appliances. You might want to check. Search Over 2 1 Million Appliance Parts

My Hotpoint dryer is seven years old and did the exact same thing. When I got over the anger and the thought of spending 4 or 5 hundred dollars to replace it I started messing with it. I finally decided that since it buzzed when I tried to start it there was current there. The only other thing it could be was the drying cycle knob.
I held the start knob and let it buzz while I slowly turned the dryer cycle knob to the right. As I turned through each cycle it would hit "off" and the buzzing would stop and then resume as I moved past the "off " setting. On the third trip around the dryer "started" and has been working since. Maybe something got out of kilter. Apparently the problem was in the knob that controls the drying cycles.

there is a problem with your exhaust check the air duct or take off the exhaust hose it will be packed with lint this will keep the dryer from running correctly !!!

in electric dryers,no heat is often caused by burnt-out heating elements,then overheat thermostats,and lastly operating thermostats.this assumes power and drum operation are nominal. some elements are in a "containment vessel". the really tough ones are behind the drum WITHOUT a separate enclosure. as it. is with dryers,the drum belt is best untightened by undogging it from the idler pulley.
