you will need to update/reinstall drivers

right click to reinstall drivers

if you can see your usb drive but its not working

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red white green black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems for a computer and its parts

if you dont have a motherboard disk you will need to download the drivers

Can a hdd2193 mk4026gax hard drive be opened?

Hard drives are not designed to be opened. If they must be opened, that needs to happen in a special "clean room", as any normal room dust can ruin the insides.

Errror code 1000-0146 dst short test

If the "short" ("brief") test fails, then the disk-drive is _really_ in bad condition, i.e., not suitable for normal usage, due to its "old age". Copy all the data files from it, to another disk, or to DVD-writable disks, and then replace it.

Took laptop apart to clean, put it all back together, dropped the hard drive. now when i start the computer it has a ticking noise from the hard drive and it keeps running a test on the ethernet connection...

It seems as though you may have damaged more than your hard drive. As far as the hard drive goes... take the hard drive out, shake it like a wrapped Christmas present. Does it rattle?
You basically have 3 options;
1. Get a new hard drive and reload your laptop.
2. Slam the edge of the hard drive on a hard surface and try it again.
3. Take to a data recovery professional. very expensive, based on your symptoms.

Since you are not 100% about your laptop being functional, you should place the hard drive in a USB enclosure and try to see the files on another computer.

My Toshiba hdd2193 f does not work in a Toshiba 6100 but works in a TE2000.

If the HDD is not recognized at all, chances are that the HDD compartment's plastic bottom tray is not in its rightful place (popped up) - in which case your HDD is gonna miss by one row of pins when inserted.

Can't access drive from My Computer

Sometimes an additional drive doesn't show up because there is no free letter, especially if you are on a network. From Disk Management (right click on My Computer, Manage) if you see your drive there, try assigning it a letter. Or disconnect other drives that are mapped. Typically an external device wants to be "next" after your hard drive (usually c:) and CD-ROM (usually d:)
