You're stuck in DEMO mode. When you see stereo's on display at a store it is set to a DEMO mode that cycles through colors, functions, etc so that potential customers can see the different aspects of the unit. To get it to stop changing colors you'll have to go into the menu and turn DEMO OFF.

Testimonial: "Thank you, it worked, great to have the colors not changing all the time. It was very disruptive driving at night"

Xbox 360

It you are not getting any error lights at all when you turn it on it is a power issue. What color lights are on the power supply when you plug it in (before powering the 360 on) and what color lights do you have after you try to power it on? Orange means the power supply is in stand-by mode or the plug is not correctly plugged into the system (when you try to power it on. Red means the power supply detected a fault, it is either too much current, to little current or overheated power supply. Plug the power unit directly into a wall outlet, no extension cords or power supplies. Has you son changed or played with the faceplate? Sometimes when you remove or change the faceplate they don't seat correctly and the power button on the faceplate does not contact the power switch under the faceplate. My guess would be an issue with the power supply so I would start there first.

Best,
Bob

Faceplate starts flahing and no controls work.

Sounds like you might need to clean the contacts on the back of the faceplate or the ones on the front of the actual unit.

Faceplate display backlight out

Your display lights are burnt out. This is a common problem. It is covered under warranty. Send it to Sony for service. Anyway, under the Sony faceplate there are two small, different colored leds which control the color. The light is aparently transfered through pieces of clear plastic (best example I can think of is the piece of plastic over the led in a household smoke alram)to most of the buttons and the backlighting. If your display has burnt out you may just be able to swap the leds for new ones. As for the intermittent green could it just be a faulty solder on the board.
