This part that is available is not for my model #. When emailed this company said I needed the main power supply module and not the sub-power supply.....so does this mean there are 2 power supplies?

there are no bulbs in plasma tv's. the problem is most likely a bad video board (what converts the digital input to usable picture for the screen) it will need to be replaced, probably better to get a new tv.
you must told to your hubby to check for the continuity on the main
power supply of the unit, there's a part that need to be Replaced Small
Electros In Main Power Supply.
You have just found out why the plasma sets are fading from the market.
Both of you may have a power supply problem. The PS in plasma TVs is more complex than in LCD sets and therefore more likely to fail.
Since Akai is so poor on product support, they may not even have parts since that set was made by Samsung who also doesn't want to hear anything about them (their site doesn't recognize the Akai model number), you may be out of luck.
In researching Akai, I find large number of folks who will not buy any Akai anythings again.
This kind of performance is unusual for a Japanese company.

The Power Supply Board is listed below. Please note, there are 2 models with the same beginning number (PDP4294). Verify your model number before selecting the Power Supply Board as each board is different depending on the model number.
The MLT169A is a version number issued by MegaMeet in asia who built the supply. The correct part number for the SMPS for that unit is: E7802-005008 and unfortunately they are no longer available... However, there is some good news, those supplies can usually be rebuilt but you need to have the equipment, knowledge to make the repair...

Take the unit into the service center - have the service center diagnosed the problem - they will order the part - but the parts are not available - DONT WAIT - The manufacturer must exchanged the unit because the the manufacturer must provide the parts for up to 5 years by law after the the tv is manufactured. Have the service center provide you with a workorder stating the television is not repairable because the parts are not available - then call 800-726-4405 - they will start hte process to exchange the televsion - LONG PROCESS to get an exchanged television
I have the same problem, where did you get one ?
Thanks in advance.
