the lazer reader may be dead.. take the cover off and check for the beam with the room lights off.. if you cant see the beam it needs replaced get one at a resale shop.. cheap dvd players run from 5 .00 on up..

The error L6 has to do with the lazer unit.
The lock signal[specified rpm signal] does not return within a certain time[about 20 seconds] from starting the polygon motor rotation.
Unfortunately in my experience the lazer unit needs to be replaced. There is no quick fix to this error. (to my knowledge)

It could be many things is the can be a bad lazer, disc rotating motor is stuck, or bad motherboard in a worst case scenario. You can check if your lazer and your disc rotating motor is working if you open your umd slot with the psp on and with a small toothpick there is a black tab that sticks up, this tells the PSP that there is a UMD in the drive If you press this down, you should see the disc motor spin and the laser light up red. If they are in working order then it could be something wrong with some of the other hardware in the psp itself. (Caution: Do not stare directly at lazer) If one of the motor (Lazer or Disk rotating motor) are twitching or trying to move there could be some dust in the gear preventing it from turning you can try getting a needle and try to move the gear manually. If this does not work your most likely going to need to send it in for repair. Hope this helps please rate thanks!

Lazer issue.Execute above sp modes or u need to take the lazer unit out and see if anything in the way.

Yes you need a new laser. The red beam should come on and go off only if its a blu ray disc or ps3 game then the laser will go to a blue beam and from there it should read the ps3 game or blu ray. If a dvd movie is in it the laser should light up red beam and read the dvd.

I don't believe that the unit has a spinning laser. Mirrors are used to split the beam into several beams that indicate plumb, level and righ angles

If you are attempting to use a red laser in daylight, you have to wear special glasses to see it well. You may have to complete this project with less light, such as after dark, or indoors. Only green lasers will show up in daylight. If this is not helpful, then I suggest that you change the batteries to brand new ones that you are sure of. There is probably no adjustment possible. The laser is either dirty or burned out. When the disc does not spin, it usually is because the controller does not see any initial data coming from the laser. Clean your laser and see if you get any response.

You can open the dvd and try to clean it manualy.open the dvd so you can see the lazer.take a normal earbud and wet it with normal methylated spirits and clean the lazer gently with that.the lazer cleaners hardly ever work 100%.Just remember not to push to hard on the lazer or you will brake it.gently clean and wait for lazer to dry and try again.
