Hi, I plugged in a 110v 4690mf printer into a 240v socket. Consequentky the printer went bang. Could you tell me whether I need a new 110v power supplyand parts number for that or do I need a new printer? Thanks Matt

Some printers have a setting for swithching volts where the power cable plugs into the printer but if it doesnt it will make a big bang and that will be the end of it.
If you don't know whether your devices can handle European electrical systems check the capacity of your devices and appliances before traveling. A gadget that has a dual voltage system usually indicates a 110-220 voltage, which means that you can use it in both American and European plugs and sockets.
Since your computer has "DUAL VOLTAGE" system it can be used any where in the world.
Your radio must be a import from the U.S.A. Your radio will not work on 240v YOU WILL BLOW IT UP!!! You need a step down transformer 240v to 110v to goto your radio, you will have to do a search on Ebay in Power tools. You sould notice the lead on your 110v radio is not like normal flex as its only single insulated for 110 volts.... Don't put a normal plug on or you may have to call the fire brigade!!
Good day mate, no problem you can plug your dvd direct to your outlet since it indicates 100 - 240V it only means your player is capable of having either 110V 0r 220V.
note: also try to check 1st if you will see a voltage selector at the back of your dvd player. it's either a slide switch indicating 110 or 220V. if no sign of this selector no problem you can plug your player straight to your socket.
There will be a sticker or engraved fine print next to the power socket or on the bottom of your Elna that will say what voltages it is compatible with. If it says 110v/220v you can use a plug adapter.Note well that the adapter doesn't change the voltage in anyway it just makes the plug fit. If it only says 110v which is most likely get an AC to AC adapter, **** Smith Electronics or Tandy will be able to help. If you're unsure don't take the risk it will take a second to destroy the electronics if you use the wrong voltage!
You can source the replacement part you are after from HP. If it is available your should be able to find it at http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main.
This is your best bet, however I should warn you that you may have an issue getting a 110v power sup unless you are in the US. Having said that your power outlet is 240v, I will assume you are not. You can order it, but you might be waiting for some time to get it.
There are two systems in use in the states
110v dryers are available that fit a standard 11v 15a socket
110/220v fit the oversize 'dryer' sockets, and they are two 110v phases 90 degreees apart
the motor runs of a single phase 110v.
there is 220v between the 'outside', the active lines of the two phases, at any time, but it is not useable to provide mechanical power as a single service, due to the complicated shape of the wave form when you add out of phase voltages together, but is ok to drive the heaters, they have no mechanical efficiency requirement
A 2 phase 110v heater it means 3kw can be supplied without a 30 amp circuit
but it becomes difficult to use a single phase 220-240v transformer to provide 2x110v 90degree 2 phase current unless you specially buy one in. .
High power applications in 220-240v are generally supplied by 415v 3 phase 60deg supplies,
Any transformer would be onsellable at the end of your posting, to your replacement, who would doubtless be in the same boat as you, with a heap of 'stuff' that needs to run.
UK Aus NZ may be sources of transformers, or dryers to suit.
check with Australian UK NZ suppliers as well as local Indian ones, as those countries are also nominal 240v single phase home suplies and they may have (1) the dryer, or (2)the transformer to suit the 110 2 phase dryer
Ive never had this fault but it could be possible. My first reaction is to swap the Power supply unit. or simply just check that the voltage is set correctly for your country. if UK 240v if US 110v little slide on back of power supply unit. Try plugging the power cord into a different socket first though my be you electricity socket at fault.
