It might be a video card issue, try swapping out the video card

Upgrading the windows version and adding ram and better video card may be a good solution. It couldn' hurt at least.
Try it and see if you can play you games.
Games are the most resourse hungry application that you can put your computer through. The ram size and video card memory size are critical for acceptable preformance.

the RAM may be corrupted or not properly installed into the slot. also check if the processor fan is working properly.

Go to the Compaq website and download the video driver specifically for your PC.
