I have a 3Com 3102 phone that randomly reboots. Has happened when on hold and a call comes in or when not using phone and I try to answer it. If on a call the call doesn't get disconnected, so when the phone finishes rebooting the line is still open. I have over 70 other phones with no problem and have other offices with a same model of router creating a VPN to the server and have no problems. I have replaced the phone, network cable and power supply and still problem persist at this remote office. The VPN seems stable sense other resources are not effected over the VPN, i.e ACD agent tool bar and file server. Any ideas what is causing this phone to reboot and how to fix it?

SOURCE: Roll back phone software

Add the NBX's IP and mac address to phone. Also static it on the same subnet.
It will go through about three long reboots.
If it doesn't work change the NBX to anything but "ethernet only" and reboot it. Then reboot phone with the above settings.

1 Click System Maintenance > Purge Data.
2 Click Purge Database
This ll do fact reset.

How to reset a 3com phone

You'd have to reboot the phone, and press the white dot 'Program' button within 30 seconds of reboot, then use the arrows to scroll down through the menus to Advanced settings, and find Eeprom reset to default, and choose that. *Note- This will reset all values of the phone. If it's Ethernet Only, it's fine. If the phone is using a Static IP, it will also clear the IP addressing on the phone*

If you are talking about resetting the phone from a user profile perspective it is different. You can reset the voicemail password under the system maintinence, password administration and select user password in the drop down box. After the password has been reset (to the extension number) they can log in and change the recordings and password. You will also need to then go to the users tab and change the name.

As long as someone hasn't been poking around in the phone system, this is a phone company issue. I have seen this many times and it has always been a carrier issue. Typically with PRI's or integrated access analog lines.

NCP stands for Network Call Processor. There is a problem with communication. Since your server is running, reset your router (disconnect power, wait a few minutes, then reconnect) that supports your IP phone.

In NBX 100 3COM phone system cannot take calls from out side as user busy signal comes. There are 10 channels. but none of them are busy. When checking the cause code the 17 code is visible. This happened...

I know this is old but maybe it can help someone else.
The line cards are "hot swappable and don't always reset with a reboot (especially a Digital Line card) you should try to re-seat the Line card after the system has booted up. This is done by unscrewing the black knobs at each end and then sliding the card out about an inch. Wait about 10 seconds and plug it back in. It takes about 2 minutes for the card to boot and synch with the phone company. Try your call again. If it's still not working after about 5 minutes, check the card in the phone system and make sure the channels are idle. If they are, call the phone company.

If the phones are only 6-8 months old you should be calling 3Com. those phones have a 1 year warranty and once you register them they will help you troubleshoot and replace them if needed. Can you provide more detail? Do you have any network issues while this is happening? Does speakerphone work but the handset doesn't?

3102 phones require group 2 licenses purchased from an authorized NBX reseller. if you don't have enough the system will not allow the phone to be discovered. You can check this unler the licenses tab while logged into the phone system as administrator.

You have to log into the system as Admin and enable CO COdes for the CLass of Service you are in. Its easy, at least the Admin should be able to do it.

Roll back phone software

The phone is in a continuous because it is trying to connect to the NBX. You need to make sure it is on the same network as the NBX. Also, within the NBX you need to make sure Auto-Discovery is enabled. You also need to check how many group 2 licenses you have, as this phone requires one to run on the NBX.
