Tip & How-To about Panasonic 37" VIERA Full HD 1080p IPS LED TV - TC-L37E5 Value Bundle

How to Troubleshoot Audio or Video Issues with a TV

If you are having an issue with the video or audio of your TV, try another source device and another set of cables. If the issue occurs with multiple source devices and sets of cables, the issue is with the TV. If the issue only occurs with one source device or set of cables, the issue is with the source device or the set of cables you are using.

  1. Check the Input Source: Make sure you have selected the correct input source on your TV for the device you are using. Use the remote control to cycle through the input options until you find the one connected to your video source.
  2. Check Video Connections: Ensure that all video cables (such as HDMI, component, or composite cables) are securely connected between your TV and the device you are trying to watch content from. A loose or faulty cable connection could result in a loss of video signal.
  3. Restart the TV and Video Source: Try restarting both your TV and the device you are trying to watch content from. Power off both devices, wait a few moments, and then power them back on. This can sometimes resolve temporary glitches or issues with the video signal.
  4. Check for Software Updates: Make sure your TV's firmware is up-to-date. Sometimes software updates can resolve compatibility issues or bugs that may be affecting video playback. Check the settings menu on your TV for an option to update the firmware, or visit the manufacturer's website for instructions on how to do so.
  5. Reset Video Settings: If you've made any changes to your TV's video settings, such as resolution or picture mode, try resetting them to their default values. This can sometimes resolve issues with video playback.
  6. Try a Different Device: If possible, try connecting a different device (such as a DVD player or gaming console) to your TV to see if the issue persists. This can help determine whether the problem lies with the TV itself or with the original device you were using.
  7. Contact Panasonic Support: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's possible there may be a hardware problem with your TV. In this case, you may need to contact Panasonic customer support for further assistance or to schedule a repair.
  8. Hope this helps

vizio model M320SR has black screen but has sound. V logo appears when tv is first turned on then goes away.

If there is no video but you have audio or you have intermittent video:
    1. Press and hold the mute button on the VIZIO remote for 3 to 5 seconds. Some VIZIO TV's have a "Mute Screen" feature that turns the screen off if you are streaming an audio application (Pandora, Spotify, etc) and don't want the screen on. To activate/deactivate this feature, hold the mute button for 3-5 seconds.
    2. Turn the TV off and unplug it. Press the power button on the side of the TV for 30 seconds. Let go of the power button and plug the TV back in.
    3. Check the connections between the TV and device. Ensure the cord is connected securely to the TV and the source device.
    4. Try a second device. (Example: If the issue happens on a Cable/Satellite box, try using a DVD player or gaming system to see if the issue occurs there.)
      1. If the issue occurs on multiple devices there is an issue with your TV. Please contact Support by Clicking Contact at the bottom of the page or give us a call Monday - Friday from 7am - 11pm Central Time or Sat. & Sun. from 9am to 6pm Central Time at 855-833-3221.
      2. If the issue only occurs on one device the issue is not with the TV but with the device or the cables used to connect it to the TV.

    Why does sound turn off.

Follow these steps to troubleshoot if there is no sound or intermittent sound from the speakers.
IMPORTANT: Not all of these features and/or functions are available on all products. Consult the instruction manual that came supplied with your unit to verify if your particular unit has these features, or if more detailed information is required to perform any of the steps below.
NOTES: Click on the appropriate link below if the issue is occurring with a particular device or connection.
    1. Make sure the MUTE function has not been activated.
    2. Try turning up the volume level.
    3. Check that there are no headphones connected.
    4. Try setting the Audio/Video (A/V) receiver to a different Surround Sound mode.IMPORTANT: Verify that the source you are playing is encoded with Surround Sound audio. If not, the audio will be very difficult to hear using a Surround Sound setting. Set Surround Sound to OFF when playing a source that is not encoded with a Surround Sound signal.
    5. Check each speaker to make sure they are properly connected to the A/V receiver.
    6. Perform a Test Tone function to verify if the speakers are working correctly.
    7. Verify all external audio sources are securely connected to the appropriate inputs on the A/V receiver. NOTE: If the audio is being sent from a television to the A/V receiver, then it may be necessary to disable the internal speakers of the TV or set the audio output of the TV to FIXED or VARIABLE. If the audio output of the TV is set to VARIABLE, then you will need to increase the volume level of the TV.
    8. Make sure the correct audio input is selected on the A/V receiver.
    9. Confirm what type of HDMI® devices are connected to the A/V receiver and then check the following:

      1. Test each one of the HDMI inputs on the A/V receiver to confirm that all of the inputs for the A/V receiver are working.
      2. Try a couple of different HDMI cables to verify there is not a bad set of cables.
      3. Unplug the video source from the A/V receiver and connect the source directly to the television. If there is still a problem with the audio, continue to the next step. If connecting the source to the TV corrects the sound issue, service will be needed on the A/V receiver. NOTE: Additional troubleshooting steps are available to troubleshoot instances when the audio, video, or both goes out when using an HDMI connection.
    10. Verify the DEMO (demonstration) mode is not active.
    11. Change the ATT (attenuate) setting. NOTE: The procedure to change the ATT feature varies by model.
    12. Reset the A/V receiver back to factory specifications.
The troubleshooting steps listed above should resolve your issue. If you have completed all of the steps and the issue is not resolved, service may be required.
